At Axi, this role is dedicated to providing strategic leadership in establishing and maintaining a robust data governance and security framework to protect the integrity, confidentiality, and compliance of our data assets across the organization.

Your EDGE assignment/You will:

The role ensures that data is protected, consistent, and compliant with global and industry-specific regulations, including GDPR, DORA, and the AU Privacy Act. By collaborating with key stakeholders—including IT, legal, compliance, and business teams—the role will ensure the alignment of data governance initiatives with business objectives, drive adherence to best practices, and manage the ongoing monitoring and mitigation of data risks. The position will also provide expert oversight on data governance tools, cloud architectures, and security solutions to maintain the integrity and security of data across the organization

•    Provide strategic guidance and oversight in developing, maintaining, and enforcing enterprise-wide data governance policies, standards, and procedures, ensuring data integrity, consistency, and compliance. 
•    Collaborate closely with the Operations Governance and Controls team to implement DAMA-DMBOK principles on data security and governance across the organization.
•    Ensure adherence to global and industry-specific data privacy laws and regulations e.g., GDPR, DORA, AU Privacy Act and other relevant regulations. 
•    Maintain a comprehensive understanding of cloud and data architectures across all technologies, including Databricks, Azure, AWS, and GCP, ensuring security and data governance principles are embedded in design, implementation, and ongoing management.
•    Collaborate with senior management, IT, legal, compliance, and business units to align data governance initiatives with business objectives.
•    Provide technology oversight by evaluating and optimizing governance and security tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Databricks Unity Catalog) to support data stewardship, lineage tracking, and compliance.
•    Educate employees and stakeholders on best practices for data handling, privacy, and governance policies.
•    Define and monitor data access policies and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), ensuring appropriate permissions and least-privilege access principles.
•    Stay ahead of emerging trends and technologies in data security and governance, evaluating their relevance and supporting the deployment of scalable, multi-regional solutions.
•    Collaborate with auditors, IT, and Security teams to streamline audit processes, conduct data risk assessments, and address data security incidents.
•    Provide guidance on audit responses, develop mitigation strategies for governance and security threats, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including GDPR, DORA and Australian Privacy Laws, by promptly addressing breaches, compliance violations, and other security issues.

Are you the one?

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Data Management, or related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience in data governance, compliance, or risk management.
  • Familiarity with DAMA-DMBOK principles and frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of GDPR, DORA, and AU Privacy Act.
  • Experience handling data privacy compliance and regulatory reporting.
  • Proficiency in Azure, AWS, GCP, and Databricks.
  • Hands-on with Microsoft Purview, Unity Catalog, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of RBAC and least-privilege access control.
  • Proven ability to develop and enforce data governance policies.
  • Experience conducting data risk assessments and supporting audits.
  • Ability to guide responses to breaches and compliance issues.
  • Skilled in working with cross-functional teams (IT, Legal, Compliance, Business).
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
