Position Description: The Lead Mechanical Engineer brings top-tier technical expertise in mechanical engineering, specifically in the factory automation design industry. This role serves as a critical resource across the company, offering solutions to complex mechanical engineering challenges. The Lead Mechanical Engineer collaborates closely with our mechanical engineering team across our entire project portfolio to provide valued technical input and solutions for our customers. Additionally this individual works cross-functionally with departments including controls engineering, applications engineering, machining and fabrication, build, and electrical, to ensure the successful execution of automation projects. This position combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic guidance to drive engineering excellence and innovation.
Responsibilities:
Technical Expertise & Problem-Solving:
- Act as the go-to resource for resolving complex mechanical engineering challenges across the organization.
- Provide technical leadership in the design and analysis of factory automation systems and components, ensuring adherence to industry standards such as ASME, ANSI, and ISO.
- Conduct in-depth reviews of project designs to ensure accuracy, functionality, and compliance with specifications.
Design & Development:
- Lead the development and design of automated machinery, layouts, and subassemblies using SolidWorks CAD software.
- Ensure that equipment designs meet customer specifications, Axis Automation standards, and industry safety guidelines.
- Utilize GD&T and Datum principles to create precise tooling designs and layouts.
- Integrate NAAMS standard components into designs where applicable.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with project managers, process engineers, controls engineers, builders, technicians, and other teams to ensure achieve seamless project execution.
- Support build and assembly teams during the manufacturing and testing phases.
- Partner with vendors to specify and source critical purchased components.
Leadership & Mentorship:
- Lead mechanical design presentations and reviews with internal teams, customers, and suppliers.
- Train and mentor less experienced engineers, fostering professional growth and skill development.
- Assist in developing and improving standards and procedures within the Mechanical Engineering department.
Project Management:
- Manage and lead multiple assigned projects, ensuring timelines and budgets are met while also managing team coordination and customer interactions.
- Provide real-time communication with company management and project teams regarding project developments.
- Professionally manage customer relationships, addressing requests and ensuring satisfaction.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with significant experience in designing custom automated machinery.
- Minimum of 1 year leading engineering teams, with a proven history of multi-project oversight.
- Proven expertise in factory automation design, with a preference for welding applications.
- Strong proficiency in parametric 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
- Comprehensive understanding of mechanical design principles, GD&T, and materials science.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to various audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects and mentor team members effectively.
Estimated Total Compensation: $85,000 - $115,00
