Reports To: Manager of Business Operations
Salary Range: $75,000–$90,000 annually (dependent on experience and qualifications)

Job Overview:

Axis Automation, a growing automated solutions provider, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated full-time Senior Accountant in our Walker, MI office. Reporting to the Manager of Shared Services, the Senior Accountant will take ownership of the month-end close process – preparing and executing month end journal entries, performing account reconciliations – and support Accounting Department financial reporting and analysis (FP&A), liaising with operation departments as needed.

The ideal candidate for this position is a self-starter with phenomenal communication skills, impeccable accuracy and attention to details, and excels at time management. With a focus on empowering Axis with accurate, up-to-date financial information, this role has the opportunity to grow into a Controller role depending on performance and business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Month-End Close Process

• Compile Monthly WIP Schedule, incorporating current budget estimates for active projects.
• Review and analyze general ledger accounts for accuracy and completeness.
• Reconcile all balance sheet accounts (e.g., bank accounts, credit cards, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, etc.). Investigate and resolve discrepancies in reconciliations promptly.
• Prepare and post standard month end journal entries, maintaining system generated repeat journal entries as needed.
• Generate monthly financial statements for managerial review.

Other Accounting Responsibilities

• Review and prepare accounts payable runs for approval.
• Prepare and execute weekly payroll journal entries.
• Calculate and record commission and bonus payments, tuition and training reimbursement for eligible employees.
• Maintain and update internal controls and accounting policies as needed.
• Assist with ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience:
• 4+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a mid-sized business environment or in automation, construction, or similar industry.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
• Experience with month-end close and financial reporting processes.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in accounting or ERP software.
• Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial modeling).
• Soft Skills:
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
