Axle is seeking a Computer Programmer to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Center for Advancing Translational Science (NCATS) located in Rockville, MD.

Overall Position Summary and Objectives
Key Deliverables:
- Run validation (ad hoc)
- Present updates to lab members (monthly)
Core Responsibilities:
- Review requirements and bug reports, design, develop, test, and deliver fixes, updates, and new features.
- Apply and extend statistical methods to address project-specific problems.
- Follow development guidelines, using GitHub (code review), and JIRA (task tracking/testing).
- Plan and implement quality control programs.
- Improve development processes to accelerate application, database, and tool delivery.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain scientific applications (Python, R, Shiny).
- Build and test workflows, databases, and web applications.
- Implement CI/CD best practices (Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud).
- Support UI/UX implementation.
- Collaborate with researchers and staff on bioinformatics and data science projects.
- Troubleshoot, test, and optimize software.
- Document requirements, code, processes, and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Programming, Data Processing, or related field
- Skills & Tools:
- Programming: Python, Java, JavaScript, Typescript, R, SQL, HTML, CSS
- Frameworks/Tools: Django, Angular, SpringBoot, Shiny, Celery, Redis, Strapi
- Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Oracle, Neo4j
- Cloud/CI/CD: AWS, Google Cloud, Jenkins, Travis, Docker, Kubernetes
- Collaboration: GitHub, JIRA, MS Office Suite
- Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills

This role has a market-competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range listed below. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location.
