Overview

Axle is looking to add a driven, flexible, organized, and meticulous Senior Veterinary Pathologist to our dynamic team. The Contractor(s) shall provide services in support of the overall functions of the office of Chief Scientist - Integrated Research Facility (OSCIRF), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

 

Technical Requirements:

 

  • Provide pathology services to support animal studies, such as assist the Federal Task Leader to manage a team of pathology, histology and clinical pathology professionals to support necropsy and histology research efforts.

  • Responsible for working with research staff to coordinate pathology and histology support, is responsible for postmortem examination (necropsy) in the BSL-4 containment laboratory, and documentation of gross observations/diagnoses in support of animal studies.

  • Provides expertise in the following areas: necropsy (examination, data capture, and reporting); histopathology (examination, data capture, and reporting); histology/immunohistochemistry lab operations; histomorphometry operations/analysis; and digital pathology operations/services.

  • Assist the Federal Task Leader with managing a team of pathology, histology and clinical pathology professionals.

  • Works with research staff to coordinate necropsies and sample analyses.

  • Performs and facilitates gross and histologic examination of samples collected during necropsies including special stains, immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization; develops comprehensive written reports.

  • Additional duties include supporting mission priorities in laboratory setting to complete research studies.  

 

Specific Qualifications:

 

  • Board certified Veterinary Pathologist (DVM, ACVP); with PhD preferred.

  • Previous recent biocontainment (BSL-3 or BSL-4) experience required; BSL-4 experience preferred.

  • Direct staff management experience required.

  • Strong leadership and mentorship abilities.

This role has a market-competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range listed below. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location.
