Job Title: Senior Project Manager - Axle Research and Technologies
Location: Remote
Department: Data Science Business Unit
Reports To: Director, Research Technology Management

Axle Research and Technologies is seeking a highly ambitious, organized, adaptable, and detail-oriented Project Manager to join our vibrant team.

Overall Position Summary

As a Project Manager at Axle, you will lead complex, cross-functional initiatives aligned with our strategic mission to advance research, clinical practice, and personalized medicine. You will be responsible for guiding healthcare, research, and technology projects from conception through delivery, ensuring they are completed on time, on budget, within scope, and aligned with organizational goals. The Project Manager will join a national, highly interactive, supportive, and interdisciplinary group of technologists, researchers, and information experts supporting the development of innovative approaches that derive insights from data.

This role requires the ability to leverage modern project management practices, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI), generative AI, and data-driven decision-making tools to enhance project planning, risk management, stakeholder communication, resource optimization, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute strategic initiatives spanning healthcare operations, population health analytics, biomedical research innovation, artificial intelligence solutions, and cloud/cybersecurity technology implementations.

  • Guide project teams to deliver on time, with clarity, quality, and measurable impact.

  • Manage geographically distributed and interdisciplinary project teams.

  • Create project plans and manage deliverables, including timelines, risk identification and mitigation, resource allocation, and coordination of cross-functional tasks using project management software (Smartsheet, Jira, and other enterprise collaboration tools).

  • Leverage AI-enabled project management tools and analytics to improve forecasting, scheduling, resource planning, risk assessment, status reporting, and decision-making.

  • Identify opportunities to utilize generative AI technologies to streamline project documentation, meeting summaries, stakeholder communications, requirements gathering, workflow automation, and knowledge management.

  • Partner with technical, research, and business teams to evaluate and implement AI-driven solutions that improve operational effectiveness and project outcomes.

  • Ensure responsible and compliant use of AI technologies by adhering to organizational, regulatory, security, privacy, and ethical guidelines.

  • Lead, mentor, and coordinate internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • Guide junior project managers and team members, fostering collaboration, innovation, continuous improvement, and AI literacy within project teams.

  • Maintain regular, transparent communications and status updates utilizing both traditional and AI-assisted reporting methods.

  • Manage complex stakeholder expectations across clients, internal leadership, and external partners in healthcare, research, and technology domains.

  • Identify, schedule, and organize effective meetings for various activities. Manage meetings to advance project objectives, develop goal-oriented agendas, coordinate presentations, facilitate discussions, capture action items and decisions, and distribute information to attendees.

  • Drive adoption of new technologies, AI-enabled tools, practices, and workflows across projects and teams.

  • Monitor project performance using key performance indicators (KPIs), dashboards, and predictive analytics to proactively identify risks and opportunities.

  • Conduct post-project evaluations, document lessons learned, and share best practices, including opportunities for AI-driven process improvements.

Required Skills

  • Experience managing virtual and geographically distributed teams.

  • Familiarity with Waterfall, Agile, Scrum, and hybrid project management methodologies.

  • Knowledge of AI-enabled project management practices and experience utilizing generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, Claude, or similar platforms) to improve productivity, communication, documentation, and project execution.

  • Understanding of AI governance principles, data privacy considerations, ethical AI use, and organizational risk management practices.

  • Ability to evaluate business processes and identify opportunities for AI-driven automation and efficiency gains.

  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to interpret project metrics, dashboards, and predictive insights.

  • Meticulous organizational skills, including document and information management.

  • Ability to be self-directed, anticipate business unit needs, take initiative, and work effectively in a cross-functional and interdisciplinary environment.

  • Remains positive and calm under pressure.

  • Collaborates effectively with diverse team members at all levels with professionalism and respect.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent oral, written, and verbal communication abilities.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and AI-assisted productivity tools.

  • Experience with project management software such as Smartsheet, Jira, Microsoft Project, or equivalent platforms.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree.

Experience

5–7+ years of experience in senior project management roles, with a proven track record leading large-scale, high-impact programs. Experience in healthcare IT, biomedical research, artificial intelligence initiatives, data science, analytics, or cloud/cybersecurity domains is strongly preferred.

Experience implementing or managing projects that incorporate AI, machine learning, advanced analytics, or intelligent automation solutions is highly desirable.

Preferred Skills

  • PMP, PRINCE2, Scrum, Agile, or equivalent project management certifications.

  • Informatics, healthcare analytics, biomedical research, or data science experience.

  • AI Project Management, AI Product Management, Generative AI, Machine Learning, or Digital Transformation experience.

  • Experience with enterprise AI platforms, workflow automation tools, and data visualization/reporting solutions.

  • Familiarity with AI governance frameworks, responsible AI practices, and emerging AI technologies.

Supervision Received

Work is performed under the direction of the Director and Associate Director.

This role has a market-competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range listed below. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location.
