Position Overview

The Scientist will support the overall functions of the Laboratory of Malaria Immunology and Vaccinology (LMIV) within the NIAID Division of Intramural Research (DIR). The Scientist will plan and execute research experiments, including malaria entomology research, and will develop new techniques and protocols. The role also involves collaborating with internal, external, and international research teams to apply and transfer research results. A Bachelor's degree in a science-related field is required, along with at least five years of laboratory experience performing entomology research, culturing malaria parasites, and operating an insectary. Candidates must also have a minimum of five years of related experience rearing and infecting mosquitoes and performing direct skin feeding assays. Experience with recombinant protein expression and purification is required.

Deliverables

• Monthly status reports covering current and completed activities, problems encountered, corrective actions taken, recommendations for the next reporting period, and hours worked — Monthly
• Status reports to assess progress — As requested by the Task Leader

Statement of Work Details

• Plan and execute research experiments, including malaria entomology research experiments, in the context of the laboratory's overall research program.
• Assist the Federal Task Leader (FTL) and other laboratory and entomology staff on research projects and techniques, including malaria entomology research.
• Analyze and interpret research data, and communicate results and methods in reports and manuscripts.
• Collaborate with industry, academia, and internal and external NIH research teams to apply and transfer the results of research, including malaria entomology research data.
• Develop new techniques, products, practices, procedures, and research protocols, including new malaria entomology techniques.
• Organize entomology data and reports of malaria entomology research findings, and communicate information with entomology teams.
• Create new entomology research protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Assist with budget reports, track supplies and sample shipments, schedule activities, and track sample inventories with international research teams working with the research program.
