Mobile Engineer II - Android (Hybrid)

This role is a senior Android engineer contributing to mission-critical real-time situational awareness systems.

Your Impact


Axon’s Real Time Operations (RTO) division builds situational awareness software that helps emergency responders manage life-and-death incidents. The application you will work on enables the officers on the field to access information about their team and access several types of camera feed including body cameras, CCTV and drones. Your work will directly improve response times, and increase responder safety.

This role is based out of our London office and follows a hybrid schedule. We rely on in-person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation. What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with the Axon product design team to turn mobile UI designs into functional, engaging solutions.
  • Interface with cloud services for seamless integration across platforms.
  • Set a high technical standard for the team through code and design reviews.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to own and deliver integrated solutions that meet customer needs.
  • Enhance engineering processes, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and long-term planning.
  • Build robust and reliable software that meets high standards for stability in mission-critical applications.
  • Collaborate closely with other groups to align on goals, ensuring we deliver impactful and innovative solutions.


What You Bring

  • 6+ years of industry experience shipping Android applications to the Google Play Store.
  • Deep understanding of Kotlin and Android concepts
  • Experience with modern clean architecture (MVVM, MVI, etc) including unit testing
  • Android experience with Retrofit, coroutines, Hilt/Dagger, Jetpack Compose, Workmanager
  • Experience with writing quality unit tests and E2E tests.
  • Experience with integrating analytics and observability systems to mobile apps. At Axon, we use tools Datadog, Sentry, Firebase extensively.
  • Understanding of real-time or low-latency systems and their constraints


Nice to have

  • Understanding of networking technologies such as WebRTC, Server-Sent-Events, Websockets, RTMP.
  • Experience working with video streaming and IoT devices / connectivity over BLE or Wifi is a plus
  • Experience with maintaining CI/CD pipelines for mobile. At Axon we use Teamcity and Github Actions
