Senior Radio Frequency Engineer

Scottsdale, Arizona, United States

Join Axon and be a Force for Good.

At Axon, we’re on a mission to Protect Life. We’re explorers, pursuing society’s most critical safety and justice issues with our ecosystem of devices and cloud software. Like our products, we work better together. We connect with candor and care, seeking out diverse perspectives from our customers, communities and each other.

Life at Axon is fast-paced, challenging and meaningful. Here, you’ll take ownership and drive real change. Constantly grow as you work hard for a mission that matters at a company where you matter.

Our mission is to protect life.

We’re out to make the world a safer place by solving big problems and taking on the public safety challenges of our time. From our company's inception building TASER devices to a full suite of hardware and software solutions, we are focused on providing police agencies with state-of-the-art devices and services they need to successfully serve and protect us. In the next few years, we're going to eliminate the burden of paperwork in policing, so officers can increase the time they spend building relationships and serving in their communities. We’ll put video at the heart of police records so our justice system can get to the truth faster. And we won't stop innovating until the bullet is rendered obsolete.

It’s a big mission, but it’s one we’ll pursue relentlessly every single day.

YOUR IMPACT

As a Senior RF Engineer I, you will lead RF design and integration for assigned products and wireless subsystems, which may include in-vehicle systems, Body Worn Cameras, wearables, and other next-generation platforms. You will contribute to RF architecture decisions and independently own the implementation, integration, validation, and debug of assigned RF subsystems—from wireless modules to chip-down designs—through design release and production readiness. Your work will include RF circuit design, RF PCB layout guidance and review, RF routing, impedance-matching networks, antenna-feed integration, and hands-on validation.

This role applies expertise in LTE, 5G, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS, and related wireless technologies to optimize mission-critical video and communications products for law-enforcement, public-safety, and enterprise customers. You will resolve multi-component and inter-subsystem RF challenges while balancing wireless performance, coexistence, antenna constraints, power, manufacturability, reliability, cost, schedule, and regulatory requirements.

Working closely with industrial design, electrical, firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory teams, you will communicate RF tradeoffs, risks, and validation results to support sound product decisions. You will also provide technical guidance to junior engineers and design partners while helping improve RF design and validation practices. This role offers the opportunity to apply and expand your expertise while contributing to technologies that directly enhance public safety, operational effectiveness, and community trust.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Lead the RF design and integration of high-performance wireless subsystems for compact, battery-powered  portable and vehicular products
  • Actively contribute to the hands-on design and optimization of chip-down RF circuitry and integrated modules for technologies such as  LTE, 5G, GNSS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, ensuring robust performance across complex multi-radio systems
  • Contribute to RF system architecture and own RF implementation, integration, validation, and debug from concept through mass production.
  • Partner with antenna engineers to select, evaluate, and integrate antenna solutions—printed, PCB, or metal—into high-density product designs
  • Conduct RF system debugging, interference mitigation, and receiver desense analysis to optimize real-world performance
  • Drive PCB layout for RF integrity, performing detailed layout reviews and driving design recommendations to ensure optimal wireless performance
  • Collaborate with design partners, providing technical guidance through RF design reviews, issue resolution, and day-to-day engineering interactions.
  • Characterize, test, and validate RF performance using lab equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, radio testers, and RF chambers
  • Conduct real-world RF field testing to validate wireless performance, capture KPIs, and troubleshoot connectivity performance issues
  • Translate product-level wireless performance requirements into actionable RF specifications and test plans

What you’ll bring

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • 7+ years designing, integrating, and optimizing wireless RF solutions for battery-powered and vehicular embedded products deployed in real-world environments (e.g., drones, automotive-mounted systems, mobile devices, action cameras)
  • Experience designing or integrating chip-down cellular RF circuits or cellular modem solutions (LTE, 5G, Cat-4 or higher).
  • Experience integrating multi-transceiver wireless systems incorporating 4G, 5G, multi-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GNSS technologies, including RF circuit design and subsystem integration.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and independently executing RF design and integration activities for embedded wireless products while managing technical risks.
  • Experience providing technical guidance to RF design partners through design reviews and day-to-day technical interactions.
  • Strong cross-functional, system-level understanding of the challenges and trade-offs involved in the real-world integration of multiple RF transceivers within complex, high-density mobile, wearable, and vehicular embedded systems
  • Significant practical experience with RF debugging, interference analysis, coexistence challenges, and receiver de-sense mitigation
  • Strong hands-on proficiency with RF measurement equipment, characterization and test methodologies
  • Hands-on schematic design experience, preferably using Cadence / OrCAD.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide PCB layout for wireless designs, perform detailed layout reviews, and issue actionable design recommendations
  • Solid understanding of antenna theory, antenna structures, selection trade-offs, and performance requirements within constrained embedded platforms
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regional regulatory certification processes relevant to RF design (e.g., 3GPP, PTCRB, GCF, FCC, ETSI)
  • Experience collaborating with electrical, mechanical, firmware, manufacturing, and regulatory engineering teams throughout product development.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and technical presentation skills

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with Qualcomm RF chipsets, diagnostic and characterization tools (e.g., QXDM, QRCT, QCAT)
  • Experience with antenna design and integration, including PCB, printed, or metal antenna implementations
  • Experience using RF simulation and analysis tools to inform design trade-offs, performance prediction, and optimization
