JOB DESCRIPTION

Senior Manager, International Indirect Tax

  • Location: Mon remotely, Tue-Fri in-office (London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, or Madrid)
  • Reporting to: VP, Tax
  • Reports: no formal direct reports, with broad influence on the global tax organization

At Axon, we are on a mission to Protect Life. We build and deploy technology across public safety and justice, and we hold ourselves to high standards in how we operate — including in how we manage our obligations as a global business.

Your Impact

Axon is seeking a Senior Manager, International Indirect Tax to lead the company's international VAT and indirect tax function, encompassing all non-US VAT and indirect taxes. The role carries overall responsibility for the quality and accuracy of all indirect tax compliance output, as well as providing advisory support to internal teams on indirect tax matters arising from contracts, new market entry, entity set-up, and tax law changes.

The successful candidate will be commercially minded, technically strong across European and global VAT systems, experienced in indirect tax compliance, and confident advising Finance, Legal, and Commercial colleagues without requiring escalation. The role supervises three indirect tax team members, reporting directly to the Vice President, Tax.  Experience in a hardware and software business with a complex supply chain is highly desired.

What You’ll Do

Internal Advisory

  • Act as the primary point of contact for non-US indirect tax queries across Finance, Legal, and Commercial teams.
  • Liaise with sales teams and other partners to understand upstream sales processes that impact indirect tax operationalization and compliance matters.
  • Advise on the VAT treatment of customer contracts, pricing structures, and invoicing arrangements, working directly with Sales and Legal as required.
  • Provide VAT guidance on new product lines and SKU launches, including taxability assessments and sales tax code assignments in D365.
  • Represent the indirect tax function in e-invoicing projects and regulatory change programmes.
  • Support the business through tax authority audits, enquiries, and disputes.
  • Monitor legislative developments across relevant jurisdictions and communicate implications to the business.
  • Advise and inform management on growing areas of focus in non-US indirect compliance and audits, technology trends and solutions, and process improvements.

Compliance Oversight

  • Review and approve all indirect tax compliance deliverables — VAT returns, Intrastat, OSS, and ESL — across all in-scope jurisdictions, with full accountability for accuracy and submission deadlines.
  • Oversee indirect tax accounting, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and BlackLine certification.
  • Maintain the compliance calendar and validate data quality across all submissions.
  • Monitor VAT payments and refunds; liaise with local tax authorities where required.
  • Provide guidance to Finance and operational teams on compliance requirements as they arise.

New Entity Set-Up

  • Lead the indirect tax workstream for all new entity formations, covering VAT registration, system readiness, and the preparation of compliant workpaper frameworks prior to first filing.
  • Review and approve invoice templates for new entities before they commence trading.
  • Ensure SOX and internal control obligations are met across all indirect tax processes.

Process and Systems

  • Identify and implement improvements to VAT filing workflows, including the use of AI, macros, Alteryx, and D365 configuration.
  • Participate in or lead system testing for indirect tax-related ERP and reporting changes.
  • Maintain commodity code tax tables and item sales tax code frameworks in D365.
  • Ensure processes are documented and structured to support an expanding compliance footprint.

What You Bring

  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in VAT or indirect tax, gained in-house at a multinational or in a professional services environment.
  • Detailed working knowledge of VAT across multiple European jurisdictions, including Intrastat, OSS, and ESL reporting obligations.
  • Demonstrable experience reviewing and approving compliance deliverables prepared by others, with personal accountability for quality and timeliness.
  • Experience advising on the indirect tax treatment of commercial contracts, pricing arrangements, and customer invoicing.
  • Experience managing the indirect tax aspects of new entity set-ups, including VAT registration and process build-out.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft D365 or a comparable ERP; working knowledge of BlackLine, Sigma, and Alteryx is advantageous.
  • Understanding of SOX internal control requirements in a tax context.
  • Ability to communicate clearly on technical VAT matters to non-specialist colleagues across Legal, Finance, and Commercial functions.
  • Experience managing and leading a team.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
