THE ROLE
The VP of Business Development in Japan has one primary objective – to grow the Japanese client portfolio with new profitable clients, with a focus on music, venues and sports segments. As the VP, you will be responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities, building and maintaining a strong sales pipeline, and ensuring we achieve our sales targets. Acting as the face of AXS in Japan, you will play a key role in fostering long-term relationships with Japan’s leading promoters and venues. You will work closely with key stakeholders across AXS in Sweden, UK , France, Germany and the US to help you achieve this goal. This will mean having 2 reporting lines – one into the Japanese office and one into the USA Sales reporting. Reporting meetings with the US sales team may also be a regular occurrence. This position is part of the senior leadership team in Japan and maybe required to hire, manage, and train a team of Business Development associates. This role will be based in Tokyo and you are expected to be at the office 2-3 days per week when not traveling for external sales meetings.
We are looking for a successful and experienced sales professional with a strong track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets. You are proactive, solution-oriented, and able to identify and act on opportunities independently.
You thrive in both autonomous and collaborative environments, and are comfortable working across international teams. With excellent communication skills, you can engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels and perform under pressure in fast-paced settings.
A keen eye for detail, combined with a passion for delivering results, will help you succeed as part of our dynamic and dedicated team.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Driving new business for AXS in Japan and taking ownership of the management of all Japanese sales activity – the focus here is on outbound generation and successful closure of opportunities
- Accountable for all Japan sales targets and building and nurturing a sales pipeline of qualified prospects.
- Actively canvass the market for new clients through various channels including telephone, email & teams and face to face meetings
- Build relationships with Japan’s leading promoters, venues, and sports teams through frequent face to face meetings.
- Meet or exceed sales budget
- Being consistent in the planning and preparing of presentations within a given timeframe, always executing these with accuracy
- Coaching and supporting colleagues as and where appropriate
- Drive increased revenue and profit to achieve the company’s goals within agreed timelines
- Be the key point of contact for all new business opportunities and use the appropriate team members to assist you in pursuing the best opportunities
- To gain a strong awareness of the industry, competitors and be aware of upcoming tender dates and new opportunities
- Following up new business opportunities, coordinating meetings and including senior management when appropriate
- Manage the new business process from beginning to end from identifying potential clients, booking meetings, introducing the client to our product, writing proposals to close the deal.
- Attending conferences within the Japan and Asia to network with potential new clients and keep up to date with competitors’ and industry technologies
- Should provide market feedback to the senior members of the company regarding competitive offerings, prospect needs and suggestions for application deployment and software development
- Communicating new product developments to prospective clients
- Serve as a key member of the Japan leadership team, working cross-functionally to shape sales strategy and contribute to the broader organizational development and operational excellence of the Japan office.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- University education within business management/ administration or closely related fields, or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years demonstrable experience in a sales/business development role
- JLPT N1 level of proficiency
- Experience in overachieving sales targets and increasing revenue from successful lead generation
- Experience in working for an organization based in multiple geographies is advantageous
- Experience within the live events and/or ticketing industry is desirable
- Excellent negotiation skills and a proven track record of successfully pitching for new business
- Experience in working with senior management to align sales strategies and solutions
- Applicable CRM experience, preferably Salesforce
- Comfortable with traveling across Japan as well as international travel when required
