The Role
Our SVP, Software Engineering (B2C) oversees global software engineering, and QA teams for our B2C products. This position oversees both strategic and tactical initiatives to optimize the software engineering processes, enhance efficiency, and elevate the overall quality of software products. This role collaborates closely with the C-suite, external clients, and cross-functional teams to define and execute technology initiatives that align with business objectives and drive innovation.
The SVP, Software Engineering partners closely with leadership and the rest of the technology team, with duties that include the delivery of software engineering enhancements and ensure the daily operational focus on AXS.com, consumer products, key clients, and the sales platform. Responsibilities also include execution and implementation of new technologies, services, and systems. Oversight into daily ticketing platform enhancements, integrations, marketplace delivery systems, B2C customer experience, organizational productivity, growth, and tactical hands-on objectives. The person in this role provides strong leadership and execution capability to the engineering function, leading the software factory and driving operational excellence within the global technology organization.
What will you do?
- Work directly with our C-Level executives and serve in a key leadership role as an operational expert, driving ticketing innovation and accomplishing our engineering goals.
- Drive the delivery of engineering and innovation processes and the development of new technologies, services, and systems to our internal and external ticketing clients.
- Oversee our engineering operations to ensure that we meet our technology productivity, growth and financial objectives, as well as timelines and deliverables on Product Roadmap targets.
- Lead the design, implementation, and provide continuous improvement of end-to-end software engineering, deployment, and maintenance processes for our software factory, including defining and tracking KPIs and metrics to measure the effectiveness of these initiatives to continuously strive for excellence.
- Develop, manage, and execute a comprehensive strategy that balances long-term vision with immediate operational needs, including budget, schedule, people management, and prioritization of engineering tasks, on-sales, implementation, product, project management, incident management, security, compliance, etc.
- Direct and empower our teams to create high-quality, scalable, and efficient software products that meet and exceed the expectations of our clients and end-users.
- Work collaboratively with internal partners, including our Product, Ticketing Strategy, Sales, Sponsorship, North American, and Global ticketing operations, as well as new business development partners and AEG to ensure the successful execution of software projects, maintain strong partner relationships, and foster collaboration and mutual success.
- Build strategies to ensure operational effectiveness of the tech team, including establishing overall direction, implementing best practices, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement to drive productivity enhancements, reduce inefficiencies, and elevate overall performance across the software engineering teams.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, guidance, and support to a diverse and talented global team of software engineers, architects, quality engineers, and technical experts including promoting a culture of collaboration, innovation, growth, and continuous learning, while consistently delivering outstanding results.
- Translate high-level business goals into actionable engineering initiatives, ensuring that technical direction is closely aligned with organizational objectives.
- Work in partnership with CTO on all technology communications and progress updates with senior leadership and staff.
- Ensure seamless business operations, effective incident response, and well-documented engineering processes with a keen attention to detail and ability to navigate complex operational landscapes to manage day-to-day operational tasks from incident triage and issue resolution to ad-hoc tactical requests.
- Lead by example through hands-on engagement in software development, actively contributing to code reviews, architectural discussions, complex problem-solving, improving software quality/performance, and setting the standard for code quality and development practices.
- Develop and manage operating budgets for the software and quality engineering organization by utilizing strategic resource allocation models to ensure the delivery of cost-effective and sustainable technology solutions.
- Ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting mechanisms by closely monitoring budget utilization and expenditures to proactively identify opportunities for optimization in conjunction with Finance
What will you bring?
- Proven track record of 14+ years in high growth tech, including 11+ years in software engineering leadership roles, with a focus on operational excellence and large-scale e-commerce experience.
- Past experience comprehensively comprehending, building, and supporting intricate software systems characterized by their demand for processing substantial volumes of data within constrained time windows.
- Demonstrated experience with technology roadmap execution, building a functionally scaling technology team, preferably in a high growth entrepreneurial environment.
- A history of successfully managing many parallel complex software projects through their entire lifecycle, from ideation and design to development, testing, and deployment while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards.
- Demonstrated success in collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and operations.
- A track record of effectively communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven experience in managing third-party vendors and outsourcing partnerships for software development initiatives.
- Extensive hands-on experience in software development, including deep proficiency with various software technologies.
- Strong experience with cloud technologies (preferably AWS) and their services, enabling the design of scalable and resilient cloud-based applications.
- Hands-on experience with leveraging CDNs, edge security, caching strategies, and dynamic routing solutions to deliver high-performance, secure, and responsive digital experiences.
- Experience managing software development teams in a global or distributed environment with the ability to leverage diverse talent and effectively collaborate across geographical boundaries.
- Experience in establishing the architecture and implementing robust and scalable repositories that serve as the core for data-driven decision-making systems.
- Showcased ability to execute operational plans from longer term technology innovation and goals while driving successful software projects from concept to delivery.
- In-depth knowledge and demonstrated practical experience with agile methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban, with a demonstrated ability to adapt and tailor agile practices to achieve efficient and effective software development outcomes.
- Actively engage in coding, troubleshooting, and supporting various database systems, including Oracle, MSSQL, DynamoDB, Aurora, Snowflake, and Redshift.
- Expertise in software architecture principles, design patterns, and best practices for building scalable, maintainable, and robust applications and complex systems.
- Deep-rooted focus on event-driven messaging that encompasses orchestration, optimization, and innovation of complex systems driven by a high-volume of real-time events.
- Knowledge of software security best practices, secure coding techniques, and an understanding of common vulnerabilities and threats.
- Understanding of QA processes, test automation, performance testing, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Aptitude for identifying complex technical challenges, devising creative solutions, and making informed decisions to drive projects forward.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze complex technical challenges, identifying root causes, and implementing sustainable solution.
- Ability to make sound and timely decisions, even in complex and ambiguous situations, based on a combination of analysis, experience, and intuition.
- Capacity to adapt to changing priorities, technologies, and market conditions while maintaining a high level of productivity and effectiveness.
- Assess and mitigate risks associated with software development projects, ensuring project success and minimizing potential setbacks.
- Encourage teamwork, promote knowledge sharing, facilitate open communication, instill a sense of purpose, and drive enthusiasm to inspire and motivate teams across time zones.
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate clearly, concisely, and empathetically with team members, stakeholders, and executives is paramount.
Pay Scale: $299,200.00 - $392,700
Bonus: This position is eligible for a bonus under the current bonus plan requirements.
