As the Principal DevOps Advisor, you will serve as the primary interface between the DevOps team and the broader organization. Your role is to act as a translator, advocate, and coordinator, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration while shielding our highly technical staff from day-to-day stakeholder interactions. You'll be the face of DevOps, responsible for understanding business needs, promoting DevOps solutions internally, and coordinating with project managers and engineering teams to deliver value.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Act as the first-level interface for initiatives requiring DevOps support, managing intake, expectation setting, and communication.
- Support technical staff by handling stakeholder communications, translating business requirements into technical needs, and vice versa.
- Serve as an internal consultant and advocate for DevOps products, tools, and practices, articulating their value proposition to non-technical stakeholders.
- Partner closely with project managers, product owners, and engineering leads to coordinate DevOps involvement in projects and initiatives.
- Work with the project coordinators to facilitate meetings, workshops, and planning sessions between DevOps and other teams to ensure alignment and mutual understanding.
- Gather requirements from stakeholders and work with the technical team to conceptualize solutions and approach strategies.
- Manage stakeholder expectations by providing timelines, status updates, and communicating trade-offs or constraints.
- Develop and deliver presentations, documentation, and training materials to promote DevOps adoption and understanding across the organization.
- Act as a liaison between engineering teams, product teams, and DevOps, ensuring clear and effective communication channels.
- Collaborate with the director and project coordinators to monitor and communicate the DevOps team’s capacity, priorities, and roadmap to relevant stakeholders.
- Help evaluate and negotiate contracts with cloud and SaaS providers, ensuring competitive pricing, robust SLAs, and successful vendor relationships.
- Drive initiatives between DevOps and other departments, including direct discussions with DevOps technical staff to understand their priorities and ensure product launches align with the needs of other departments.
What you’ll need to be successful:
Must Haves
- 10+ years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or related technical fields with significant stakeholder-facing and coordination experience.
- A diploma in computer science, Engineering, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong technical background with deep understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD, and infrastructure concepts (enough to speak credibly but not required to implement).
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
- Proven track record of managing stakeholder relationships and expectations in a technology-driven environment.
- Experience coordinating with project managers, product teams, and engineering leadership.
- Demonstrated experience managing difficult or demanding internal customers, with strong conflict resolution and de-escalation skills.
- Proven ability to navigate challenging conversations, manage competing priorities, and maintain positive relationships even in high-pressure situations.
- Natural ability to advocate for technical teams and "sell" solutions and services internally.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in a technical account management, developer relations, or internal consulting role.
- Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, or similar tools for project and knowledge management.
- Background in product management or business analysis within technical organizations.
- Experience in the digital media or online entertainment industry.
- Good understanding of cloud economics.
- Presentation and training facilitation skills.
