Regional Operations Manager, Battery Storage

The Regional Operations Manager reports directly to the Vice President of Operations & Maintenance and acts as a key extension of executive leadership for both field and commercial operations. At Aypa, we are not a passive asset owner, we lead from the front, take pride in true ownership, and set the standard for operational excellence across our growing fleet. The ROM is responsible for the safe, reliable, and compliant day-to-day operation of each utility-scale BESS and Hybrid asset within the Western region, acting as the accountable leader for asset performance, contractor oversight, and the execution of maintenance and repair strategies that maximize availability, optimize revenue, and uphold Aypa’s commitment to best-in-class operations.
Responsibilities:
- Safety & Compliance Leadership
- Champion a strong safety culture aligned with company and regulatory expectations;
- Ensure compliance with all applicable standards within the western region;
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and spearhead corrective actions;
- Continuously maintain audit readiness across all assigned sites;
- Operational Performance & Reliability
- Accountable for regional asset availability, reliability, and overall operational performance;
- Consistently reduce return to service time and proactively minimize or mitigate any forced outages;
- Oversee troubleshooting of complex system issues (HV, BESS, SCADA, BMS, inverters, etc.);
- Partner with OEMs to drive safe, urgent, and practical resolutions to equipment failures and underperformance;
- Maintenance Strategy & Execution
- Oversee and coordinate with OEMs to optimize preventative and corrective maintenance programs with a focus on uptime and revenue potential;
- Ensure active execution of maintenance plans and work orders are conducted within industry best practice and safety protocols;
- Support development of long-term asset management strategies and lifecycle planning;
- Proactively coordinate outage planning with Commercial Operations and Asset Management;
- Contractor & OEM Management
- Manage O&M contractors, OEMs, and service providers to ensure performance and accountability;
- Proactively monitor and enforce contractual obligations, including LTSA compliance, and warranty enforcement;
- Drive timely issue resolution and escalation as needed;
- Reduce vendor dependency through increased internal operational capability;
- Financial & Commercial Alignment
- Support regional O&M budgets, forecasting, and cost control initiatives;
- Partner with Asset Management to optimize asset revenue and minimize downtime;
- Provide operational input into financial models, curtailments, and outage impacts;
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements;
- Cross-Functional Coordination
- Collaborate with Construction to ensure smooth project turnover and COD readiness;
- Support commissioning activities and operational acceptance testing;
- Partner with Digital/IT teams on SCADA, monitoring, and data visibility improvements;
- Ensure alignment with Commercial Operations for outage reporting and availability commitments for each unique asset requirement;
- Reporting & Communication
- Provide daily reporting on asset performance, risks, and operational priorities;
- Communicate effectively with executive leadership and cross-functional teams;
- Escalate critical risks, compliance issues, and any potential operational constraints;
- Other duties as required or assigned.
Key Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in power generation, renewable energy, or industrial operations;
- 3+ years of leadership/management experience;
- Strong knowledge of utility-scale renewable operations (BESS, solar, or similar technologies);
- Proven experience managing contractors, OEMs, and field operations;
- Experience with BESS systems, EMS/SCADA platforms, and inverter technologies;
- Familiarity with ERCOT, CAISO, PJM, or other ISO/RTO markets;
- Knowledge of NERC compliance and CIP requirements;
- Operational leadership and decision-making under pressure;
- Strong technical troubleshooting capability;
- Contract and vendor management expertise;
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management;
- High ownership mindset with bias for action.
Compensation and Location:
Salary: A base salary commensurate with experience;
Bonus: An annual bonus will be awarded based on individual performance and the overall; success of the business;

Location: Remote (USA) with cadence of on-site presence as required. Ability to work in the United States is a requirement;
Travel: Regional travel required – up to 50%. Ability to support off-hours or emergency response as needed.
