Essential Job Duties

We’re looking for an AI/ML Engineering Manager to help scale a growing team focused on building AI-powered solutions that enhance how BambooHR operates internally.
This is a hands-on, leadership role responsible for translating business needs into pragmatic AI/ML solutions, driving execution across multiple initiatives, and developing a high-performing team of engineers and data scientists. You’ll partner closely with internal stakeholders across departments to deliver impactful, responsible, and scalable AI capabilities.
You’ll operate at the intersection of execution, enablement, and influence—helping the team move quickly while building the right foundations for long-term success

You will:

  • Manage and develop a team of AI/ML engineers and data scientists, including coaching, performance management, and hiring
  • Define and prioritize AI/ML work with internal partners across departments such as HR, Support, Finance, and GTM
  • Translate business problems into clear technical requirements and execution plans
  • Drive delivery of AI/ML solutions, including planning, prioritization, and tracking outcomes
  • Guide the design and implementation of AI/ML systems (e.g., LLM-based applications, predictive models, automation)
  • Ensure solutions meet defined business requirements, scale appropriately, and integrate with existing systems
  • Establish and improve processes for model development, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring
  • Partner with engineering, data, and platform teams to deploy and maintain solutions in production
  • Provide clear direction in ambiguous problem spaces so the team can execute successfully
  • Set expectations for quality, timelines, and accountability across the team
  • Advise stakeholders on tradeoffs, limitations, and appropriate use of AI/ML

What You Need to Get the Job Done

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, data science, or AI/ML
  • 3+ years leading AI/ML projects and managing individual contributors
  • Experience delivering AI/ML or data-driven systems in production
  • Ability to define technical approaches from unclear or evolving business requirements
  • Experience working with cross-functional partners outside of engineering
  • Working knowledge of modern AI/ML methods (e.g., LLMs, applied ML, data pipelines, evaluation)
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences
