What We Are Looking For:
In collaboration with Ohana's Director, the Assistant Director will help guide Bandwidth’s efforts to develop our on-site Child Development Center, Ohana, providing a best-in-class educational environment for children of Bandwidth employees and serving as an important element of Bandwidth's Whole Person Promise. This position requires a highly organized, compassionate, and proactive individual with a strong understanding and track record of people management and a passion for Montessori education. The Assistant Director is a key player in fostering a positive and supportive environment for teachers and families, and is a champion of Bandwidth's core values.
What You'll Do:
- Leading Our Team:
- Educational Leadership: Deliver on the Center’s Education Principles inspired by Montessori, Resources for Infant Educators (RIE) and (to a lesser degree) other educational best practices established by the Director and Ohana Board. Adhere to accreditation standards of the American Montessori Society (AMS) and RIE Methodology for Infant Care.
- People Leadership: Will lead up to 12 classroom leaders, providing supervision, mentoring, coaching and guidance in people leadership and creating a collaborative classroom environment for teachers.
- Team Performance Management: Provide ongoing support, coaching, and guidance to teaching staff, fostering a culture of growth and excellence in alignment with Bandwidth and Montessori philosophies.
- Staff Meetings & Communications: Create and maintain a structured framework for staff meetings and ongoing communication, ensuring everyone stays informed and connected.
- Recruiting & Hiring: Assist in the recruitment and hiring process for teaching staff, ensuring we attract and retain exceptional talent.
- Onboarding & Orientation: Develop and deliver a comprehensive orientation and onboarding program for new staff members.
- Staffing Planning: Manage daily staffing assignments, holiday/PTO coverage, and float teacher schedules to ensure seamless classroom coverage.
- Employee Relations: Support the Center Director in handling employee relations situations and conflicts with sensitivity and professionalism.
- Observe classrooms regularly to ensure alignment with Montessori and REI practices. Provide feedback that is aligned with observation

- Operational Excellence & Compliance:
- Serves as the acting Director in the absence of Ohana’s Director, Head of School.
- Performance & Compensation: Support the development and administration of the performance management program, compensation design, and annual compensation increases.
- Compliance & Best Practices: Alongside the Center Director, oversee classroom audits, ensure DCDEE compliance, sanitation and licensing, and uphold legal and regulatory compliance. Assist in the development of school policies and procedures and work with the Center Director to ensure standards are upheld throughout the school.
- Enrollment & Parent Engagement: Work with Center Director to manage student enrollment, conduct parent orientations, and lead new family tours and orientation.
- Corporate Risk Management: Ensure adherence to Information Security, Physical Security, and Corporate Responsibilities & Ethics guidelines.
- Budgeting: Assist with the annual budgeting process.
- School Growth: Contribute to school growth plans and initiatives.
- Collaboration & Support:
- Internal Partnerships: Collaborate and communicate effectively with key internal partners and stakeholders.
- Classroom Support: Provide support to teachers in addressing behavioral challenges, enriching the curriculum, addressing developmental concerns, supporting language development, and implementing preschool enrichment programs.
- Parental Engagement: Support the Ohana Community of Parents & Teachers (OCPT), provide individual parent coaching, and foster strong parent-school partnerships.
- University Collaboration: Assist with the University Teacher Program collaboration.
- Staff Events: Plan and execute staff events to foster camaraderie and celebrate successes alongside the Front Office Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Need:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree and MACTE Montessori Certification (any level infant/Toddler or Primary)
- Experience:
- 6+ years Montessori credentialed
- 8+ years of experience in a Montessori environment
- 3+ years of leading a team and managing performance
- 3+ years minimum in a school leadership position in early and childhood development school
- RIE (Resources for Infant Educarers)
- Experience training, mentoring, and inspiring center personnel
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise of the regulations and best practices for managing a child development center
- Experience communicating with center staff, parents, visitors, and children
- Skills:
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with ability to tailor appropriately communication toward different audiences (staff/teachers, parents, visitors, children, etc)
- Comfortable learning new technology
- A compassionate, nurturing attitude
- Strong organizational skills
- Desire to work in a constantly changing and innovative environment
- Able to pass background check
- First Aid/CPR certification (within 30 days of hire)
Working Conditions:
- Works in a normal Child Development Center environment
- Must be able to lift, move, or hold children with weight up to 60 pounds.
- Must be able to observe children from various distances.
- Must be able to lift children from various heights.
- Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach with hands and arms and use hands to finger, handle or feel.
- Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time
- Must be able to use hands for repetitive tasks, such as writing and typing
- Must have the ability navigate uneven outdoor terrain for limited periods of time in various mild to
moderate weather conditions
