Senior Strategic Mission Analyst

Barbaricum is seeking a Senior Strategic Mission Analyst to support execution of policies, plans, and strategies for Headquarters Air Force Mission Assurance Integration Lead Division (MAIL). HAF MAIL performs the basic functions of Mission Assurance (MA), the defense critical infrastructure (DCI), and Risk Management requirements for the Air Force including identifying, assessing, prioritizing, and overseeing risk management actions for the most critical USAF and Department of Defense (DoD) assets in accordance with Department of Defense Instruction (DODI) 3020.45.
 
This individual will bring a strategic-level mindset to Mission Assurance activities, applying a deep understanding of strategic warfighting concepts to identify and assess critical assets that enable DoD missions. They will perform mission mapping to analyze Air Force capabilities and dependencies in support of Joint and Air Force strategic plans. This role requires engaging senior leaders and stakeholders to shape decisions that align with overarching DoD strategies.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and give Mission Analysis Briefings for Air Force nominated Mission Assurance Assessments. Brief findings to senior leaders and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate entries for Air Force owned assets in Mission Assurance systems of record.
  • Understand, develop, and execute DoD and Joint Staff Mission Assurance policy.
  • Prepare and facilitate approval or the annual Air Force TCA validation.
  • Conduct detailed dependency and interdependency analysis of Air Force owned assets.
  • Analyze and map DoD strategic missions, plans, and tasks. Identify Air Force capabilities and assets required to fulfil essential tasks.
  • Analyze dependency to support Air Force nomination of assets and capabilities critical to DoD strategic missions.
  • Write and staff Assessment Focus Statements for Air Force led Mission Assurance Assessments.
  • Represent Headquarters Air Force in Pre-Assessment Site Surveys in support of mission Assurance Assessments at locations across the globe.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders to provide strategic-level insights and data-driven recommendations for decision-making.

 

Qualifications:

  • Active DoD TS/SCI Clearance.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel expertise (pivot tables, modeling, advanced formulas), and proficiency with modern collaborative tools such as SharePoint, Task Management Tools (like TMT), and Microsoft Teams.
  • Extensive experience as an action officer / staff officer on large G, J, or A staffs. Candidates with experience working in or with COCOM or MAJCOM Staffs in plans (J5 / A5) are highly desired.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct detailed analysis and present findings through technical white papers and high-level briefings.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with demonstrated ability to manage complex projects.
  • Ability to travel CONUS or OCONUS approximately one week per quarter.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Joint Planner—experience in the Joint Planning Process (Joint Publication 5-0). Proficiency with Combatant command campaign plans (OPLANS, CONPLANS).
  • Mission Analyst experience with Mission Assurance databases and Mission Assurance Risk Management System (MARMS) applications.
  • Experience with Palantir analytical tools such as Palantir Foundry or Gotham.
  • Experience in systems engineering, statistical modeling, or operations research, particularly in the context of criticality modeling and decision support systems.
  • Experience conducting Mission Assurance or other vulnerability/risk assessments.
  • Relevant experience in a Mission Assurance related discipline including Force Protection, Civil Engineering, Emergency Management, Operations Research or Cyber Security.
  • Experience conducting analysis and presenting findings in written and oral briefing formats.
