Expression of interest - Environment Designer

For more than 35 years, Bardel Entertainment has led the animation industry through unwavering commitment to quality, creativity, and innovation. We are an internationally recognized, Emmy Award®-winning studio – in two prominent Canadian cities, Vancouver and Montreal – and the creative force behind top audience hits such as The Dragon Prince, Rick and Morty, Teen Titans Go!, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. 

In preparation for future greenlit projects, we wanted to open this Expression of Interest and connect with talented environment designers. As an Environment Designer at Bardel, you will be responsible for designing sets based on environments established by the Art Director as well as conceptualizing new locations.

What you’ll be doing:

 

  • Create set designs with proper breakdowns and callouts of the environment for the modeling and surfacing department
  • Explore and provide a variety of design ideas to the Art Director to identify sets
  • Create set designs and set elements from keyframes.
  • Provide lighting examples of the environments on CG renders
  • Work with a team of environment Designers; providing notes to reach desired design outcomes and collaborate with props designers
  • Provide paintover for modeling and surfacing department

 

What you’ll bring:

 

  • 2+ years of environment designing experience on animated production
  • Familiar with 3D animation pipelines
  • Ability to organize and manage time effectively to meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner
  • Strong drawing skills and sense of design, character, and composition
  • Photoshop experience required; Maya, Blender, Shotgrid familiarity a plus
