Senior Designer

Kansas City, MO

BarkleyOKRP’s Experience and Design group is looking for a talented Senior Designer to join our growing team.

Design plays an important role in everything we touch – from strategy, process, and systems to art, motion, and experiences. It fundamentally enhances the work we put out into the world and leads to more enduring brand interactions.

As a Senior Designer at BarkleyOKRP, you will employ skill and knowledge in the craft of Design across multiple mediums to create experiences that are distinctive and memorable. You will be called upon to push the boundaries of typography, color, pattern, and imagery to disrupt the visual landscape in the service of great ideas. You’ll think in terms of systems before executions. And you’ll be expected to maintain an active curiosity and awareness of visual trends, technological advances, and cultural nuances within the field of Design.

The ideal Senior Designer candidate exhibits a discerning eye and impeccable design sensibilities. They understand the specific business case and strategy for every project, with an appreciation for the clients’ business and industry. The Senior Designer can think beyond static executions to address motion, interaction, and experience design.

If reading any of this makes your arm hairs stand up or your spidey-sense tingle, you might be the person we’re looking for.

Responsibilities:

  • Pushes the boundaries of imagery, typography, color, pattern, and texture to build compelling design systems
  • Demonstrates strong art direction skills when developing overall visual approaches
  • Oversees the creative vision and execution of photo shoots in collaboration with photographers, stylists, clients, etc.
  • Thinks in terms of systems vs. individual executions (i.e. able to see the bigger, broader application of design)
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the specific business case and agreed-upon strategy for every project, with an appreciation for the client’s business and industry
  • Stays actively aware of visual trends, technological advances and cultural nuances within the design field
  • Looks for opportunities to disrupt the visual landscape in service of great ideas
  • Works productively and harmoniously as a teammate with those who share responsibility on day-to-day assignments
  • Interfaces with clients on a regular basis, and manages informal presentations and email correspondence as required
  • Takes ownership of specific accounts and initiatives above and beyond daily design deliverables
  • Under the direction of the DD/ADD, ensures work is seen through to completion – including quality assurance and proofing before final production

Qualifications:

  • College degree or related professional experience
  • A strong portfolio/body of work is required for consideration
  • An understanding of core design principles such as visual hierarchies, readability and legibility, color theory, typography and neutral space
  • Strong knowledge of fundamental design tools, including but not limited to Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat
  • Demonstrates the ability to think beyond static executions to address motion design, interaction design, and experience design
  • Comfortable presenting and articulating work to design teams and clients
  • Ability to lead a project within a design team working with other designers and writers
  • Has a strong ability to prioritize work and manage their own time based on short and long-term needs

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
