POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director, Data Engineering, is a critical and trusted leadership role, responsible for leading and forming the enterprise’ data platforms that support BAYADA’s mission and long-term goals. This role is responsible for formulating and implementing a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with the organization’s overall business objectives, enabling reliable, secure, and scalable data foundations for analytics, decision-making, and AI across the enterprise. The Director, Data Engineering, is responsible for ensuring data initiatives support and enhance the overall business strategy, fostering growth and competitive advantage.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Exemplifies characteristics of The BAYADA Way: compassion, excellence and reliability.
  • Four (4) year college degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field. Advanced Degree preferred.
  • Twenty (20) years of progressive experience leading and transforming data engineering and analytics teams in a growth-oriented environment.
  • Five (5) years specifically focused on enterprise data platforms, Lakehouse and cloud-native data architectures, and large-scale data engineering programs (individuals who has managed and built teams of 30+ people).
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing automation in engineering workflows. On the cutting edge of AI based engineering capabilities
  • Demonstrated automations in multi cloud architecture environments
  • Relevant certifications preferred, not required (e.g., Amazon Web Services (AWS), Databricks, Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), Project Management Professional (PMP)).
  • Demonstrated record of strong interpersonal skills and building relationships.
  • Demonstrated record of goal achievement and exceeding performance standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • Proven ability to lead enterprise data engineering projects and teams and the development of data and analytics solutions.
  • Expertise software development, IT infrastructure, data architecture, and emerging technologies.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in cloud data platform migration and cloud-native data engineering, enterprise-scale integrations and ingestion development, and modernization of legacy data warehouse and BI platforms.
  • Proven track record of working with multi-functional, cross-site teams in a remote, complex work environment.
  • Experience managing budgets and vendor/contract relationships.
  • Strong understanding of secure data engineering practices, agile development methodologies, and healthcare industry security and privacy regulations like HIPAA, HITECH, and NIST framework.
  • Demonstrated experience in modernizing legacy data platforms, transitioning data warehouse and Business Intelligence (BI) systems to the cloud, and implementing enterprise-scale data integrations connecting distributed systems.
  • Proven ability to manage high-pressure situations with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong relationship-building skills to promote collaboration and drive successful outcomes.
  • Proven ability to build on open-source platforms (e.g., Databricks, AWS, Apache Spark, data build tool (DBT), Airflow, SQL/Python) and the ability to swiftly learn new tools.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Understands and connects with the BAYADA culture.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate and communicate the core values of BAYADA and The BAYADA Way.
  • Champion BAYADA’s core values and The BAYADA Way, ensuring these principles guide every initiative and decision.
  • Lead the strategy, development, and execution of the enterprise data platform — including ingestion, storage, transformation, governance, and observability — in alignment with organizational growth, digital transformation, and modernization priorities.
  • Advance adoption of modern data engineering practices, including Lakehouse architectures, streaming and batch ingestion, DataOps, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), and infrastructure as code to enable scalable, resilient solutions.
  • Oversee the modernization of legacy data warehouse and BI environments (e.g., SQL Server, SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)), emphasizing the migration to cloud-first, Lakehouse-based platforms for improved performance and agility.
  • Design, scale, and manage BAYADA’s data integration and pipeline framework with a focus on reliability, resilience, and sustainable growth.
  • Operationalize and oversee robust data quality, observability, and lineage programs to ensure continuous improvement and high standards of delivery.
  • Support the organization’s AI and analytics strategy by delivering the trustworthy, governed, and well-modeled data foundation required for insight-driven decision-making and exceptional user experiences.
  • Collaborate with IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise architecture, application engineering, and analytics teams to build integrated, secure, and future-ready data platforms.
  • Partner with product management and business stakeholders to ensure the on-time delivery of data roadmaps, balancing speed, quality, and long-term maintainability.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare industry regulations — including HIPAA, HITECH, and NIST — and maintain strong security and PHI-handling frameworks across the data lifecycle.
  • Foster and sustain a culture of innovation, collaboration, teamwork, and continuous learning across the data engineering function.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on data investments, risk mitigation, and innovation opportunities, aligning initiatives with BAYADA’s mission and business priorities.
  • Identify, evaluate, and guide the adoption of emerging data technologies that elevate BAYADA’s mission and advance care excellence.
  • Streamline data engineering operations to enhance productivity and organizational effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to mitigate data and platform risks and ensure the security, compliance, and resilience of BAYADA’s data assets.
  • Lead organizational change management related to data platform adoption, ensuring smooth transitions and widespread user acceptance.
  • Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with leaders and stakeholders to ensure alignment and support for data initiatives.
  • Establish, monitor, and report on service level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) to uphold the highest standards of data quality, reliability, and service delivery.
  • Cultivate, lead, and develop a high-performing, inclusive, and collaborative data engineering team that embodies BAYADA’s values and strives for excellence.
  • Oversee the creation, implementation, and enforcement of data engineering policies, standards, and governance frameworks to ensure regulatory compliance and industry-leading best practices.
  • Allocate resources strategically, including budget and personnel, to maximize the impact and value of data investments.
  • Demonstrate solid performance or exceed performance standards in key job dimensions/attributes as defined on the Performance Appraisal for Office Staff.
  • Perform related duties and special projects as required or requested by supervisor, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to BAYADA’s evolving needs.
