Senior Mobile Engineer, BLE & Device Connectivity (iOS/Android)

Boston, MA / Remote

Beacon Biosignals is transforming precision medicine for the brain, from clinical development to clinical care. For Life Sciences partners, we offer the leading at-home EEG platform for clinical development of novel therapeutics for neurological, psychiatric, and sleep disorders. Our Diagnostics business is building the most comprehensive at-home platform for precision diagnostics, combining EEG and cardiopulmonary signals to deliver reimbursable assessments for sleep and central nervous system disorders. Together, we're changing the way patients are diagnosed and treated for any disorder that affects brain physiology.

As a Senior Mobile Engineer focused on device connectivity, you'll help power Beacon's mission by building the native iOS and Android BLE layer that connects our EEG headbands and other wearables to the apps patients and clinicians rely on. Your work will determine how reliably we capture high-fidelity data in homes, clinics, and trial sites.

This isn't just another app. You'll build tools that help unlock insights into neurological, psychiatric, and sleep disorders, with the potential to improve lives at scale.

Beacon's robust asynchronous work practices ensure a first-class remote work experience, and we also have in-person office hubs in Boston and New York. For this position we will consider candidates based anywhere in the US Eastern time zone.

What success looks like

As part of our small, mission-driven Mobile Apps Team, you will:

  • Lead development of our native iOS and Android BLE device SDKs.
  • Own connection reliability, data throughput, and battery performance for device communication across a wide range of phones, OS versions, and real-world environments.
  • Partner closely with our Devices team on firmware interfaces, GATT profiles, and device behavior.
  • Expose device capabilities to our React Native applications through clean, well-tested native modules.
  • Own the observability of device connectivity, using telemetry and field feedback from real users to find and fix failure modes.
  • Help shape the roadmap and technical direction of our mobile platform.

In your first 3–6 months, you might:

  • Improve BLE pairing and reconnection reliability across both iOS and Android.
  • Increase streaming robustness for EEG data, including recovery from dropped connections and backgrounding.
  • Build the device-side support for a new in-app feature that validates EEG signal quality before data capture.
  • Add diagnostics that help our Clinical Operations team troubleshoot device issues in the field.

What you will bring

You'll be a great fit if you have:

  • 8+ years of experience in mobile development, with extensive native experience on iOS (Swift) and/or Android (Kotlin).
  • Hands-on experience integrating BLE peripheral devices into production mobile apps, including pairing/bonding, reconnection, background operation, and data throughput (e.g., Core Bluetooth, Android BLE APIs).
  • Experience with sensor integration or streaming health data from wearables.
  • A rigorous approach to reliability: you care about edge cases, device fragmentation, and performance.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working in a collaborative, async environment.

Bonus points if you've:

  • Built production React Native apps, or written native modules for React Native or Expo.
  • Worked with TypeScript and our broader stack (React Native, Expo, GitHub).
  • Worked with medical devices, EEG, or wearables.
  • Worked on apps for clinical trials, patients, or another regulated environment.
  • Contributed to open source mobile or BLE projects.

The salary range for this role is $150,000 – $190,000. Salary ranges are determined using current market compensation data for this role and adjusted based on experience, skills, and location. The base salary is one component of the total compensation package, which includes equity, PTO, and other benefits.

At Beacon, we've found that cultural and scientific impact is driven most by those that lead by example. As such, we're always seeking new contributors whose work demonstrates an avid curiosity, a bias towards simplicity, an eye for composability, a self-service mindset, and - most of all - a deep empathy towards colleagues, stakeholders, users, and patients. We believe a diverse team builds more robust systems and achieves higher impact.
