Store Manager
IN A NUTSHELL…
We've spent over a decade building a brand people genuinely love – online, through our products, and in the way we show up in the world. Now we're doing something we've never done before; opening our first Bellroy owned store.
This is a big deal for us – it brings everything that Bellroy stands for into a physical space. An energising, design-focused place where customers can engage with our products, try them on and uncover the nitty gritty from our seasoned Carry Guides. And we need someone to lead that experience – our first Store Manager. That’s where you come in.
You'll be the person who helps shape what our stores become. The rituals, the standards, the energy. You'll coach a small team, make real-time calls when things get busy or tricky, and model the kind of customer experience we want to be known for. You'll open the doors in the morning and lock up at night, trusted with the keys to something we've been dreaming about for years.
If you've ever wanted to help write a retail playbook (rather than inherit one) – this is the role for you. We're looking for someone who gets energised by firsts, finds joy in the details and who wants to help us prove that retail can be done differently.
As a certified B Corp, we care about more than sales. We care about impact on the planet, our crew and now on the people who walk through our doors. You'll be joining a company that's thoughtful about how it operates and a team that's genuinely excited to see what this new chapter looks like.
YOU COULD BE THE ONE IF YOU HAVE…
- 5+ years in retail, with at least some of that in a leadership or supervisory role (key holder, floor lead, assistant manager – the title matters less than the experience)
- A knack for coaching and developing others – you notice when someone's struggling and you know how to help them improve
- The ability to document and communicate new standards in ways others can engage with – including visual merchandising, sales, inventory and customer support
- A calm head when things get busy; you can make quick calls on the floor and handle escalations without breaking a sweat
- Strong communication skills, both with customers and with your crew
- Comfort with POS systems and basic troubleshooting knowledge (no need to be a tech guru, just an openness to tackling technical snags)
- A thirst for product knowledge and understanding how products differ from one another
- A genuine interest in Bellroy – our products, our values, and what we're trying to do in the world
- A track record of driving sales and hitting targets, without losing sight of what makes a customer experience genuinely good.
- A natural curiosity about human behavior and what compels customers to purchase product on the shop floor
Even if you don't tick every box above, if you're excited by the idea of helping us figure out what a Bellroy store should feel like, we'd still love to hear from you.
IN YOUR FIRST FEW WEEKS, YOU’D LIKELY…
- Spend time at Bellroy HQ and online, getting a deeper understanding of our products, values and design philosophy (and asking a lot of “why did we do it this way?” questions)
- Sit down with our Retail, Brand and Cx folks to understand what we want this store to feel like – then start turning that into clear rituals, standards and ways of working
- Map out the roles, shifts and skills we’ll need in your team, then work with Talent to screen applications and start interviewing our first crew of Carry Guides
- Work with our visual and brand teams on how the store will be laid out – where products live, how stories are told, and how customers will move through the space
- Help define the nuts and bolts of store operations: opening and closing routines, cash handling, stock processes, service standards and “what we do when things go wrong”
- Build simple tools and documentation (checklists, how‑tos, talking points) so your future team can hit the floor feeling prepared, not thrown in
- Share weekly updates with Bellroy HQ on what you’re learning – from hiring and training needs to small operational tweaks – so we can keep refining the Bellroy retail playbook together
WHAT’S IN STORE AFTER THE LAUNCH…
- Be on the shop floor most of your week – showing the team how to have those same knowledgeable, relaxed conversations you helped define, the kind where customers leave feeling genuinely looked after
- Watch for patterns in what's selling, what questions keep coming up, where people hesitate – then use those observations to refine the layout, storytelling and service rituals you contributed to
- Keep coaching your Carry Guides through quick feedback and regular check-ins, so the standards you built keep evolving and the team keeps getting sharper
- Hold those operational rhythms you defined - rosters, stock, visuals, cash-up, compliance - in a way that keeps the store running calmly
- Keep experimenting with new ideas and share what you learn back to HQ, so the retail playbook keeps improving
