People Operations Lead

Collingwood, Victoria, Australia

IN A NUTSHELL…

We're looking for a People Operations Lead to be the backbone of how Bellroy supports its crew, from someone’s first day through to their last (and everything in between). You'll be part of our People & Culture team, reporting to our Chief People Officer, and responsible for making sure our people operations run smoothly across Australia and around the world.

Over the past few years, Bellroy has grown globally. We have two offices in Victoria, a hybrid working model and a globally dispersed, diverse workforce that keep things interesting. You'll manage the systems, processes and compliance that hold it all together, but you'll do it with the care and thoughtfulness that makes Bellroy unique.

This isn't a role where you just keep the lights on. You'll shape how we work by improving our processes, building smarter systems, and making sure our policies actually make sense to the people reading them. You’ll be the problem-solver and the type of human who seeks to understand, an explorer of opportunity, a navigator of the inevitable ambiguities that come with our growth, and a driver in making a real difference to how our crew experiences work here.

We offer a seriously considered environment, products designed with intention, a B Corp commitment to business as a force for good and a crew who genuinely love learning and improving. Decision making sits close to the work, we’re honest about what’s working (and what’s not), and we care a lot about doing things properly, not just ticking boxes.

YOU COULD BE THE ONE IF YOU…

  • Have 5+ years' experience in people operations, HR operations or a generalist HR role, with strong knowledge of Australian employment law and its practical applications
  • Have managed end-to-end employment lifecycle processes, including onboarding, offboarding, leave administration, benefits, work rights and mobility, and understand the nuance of doing this across multiple countries
  • Know your way around HRIS platforms (bonus points if you've worked with HiBob) and care about keeping data accurate, systems tidy and processes efficient
  • Have experience with employment compliance and statutory reporting, things like WGEA reporting, award interpretation and policy development don't make you flinch
  • Can confidently advise managers on employee relations matters from performance issues, organisational changes to exits, with a calm, practical approach that balances empathy and good judgement
  • Have supported or led annual people cycles including performance reviews, compensation reviews and workforce planning, and understand the coordination it takes to make these run well
  • Are excited by process improvement. You spot inefficiencies, propose better ways and actually follow through. Whether it's streamlining a workflow or exploring how AI can help, you're energised by making things work better
  • Communicate clearly and thoughtfully. You can translate complex employment matters into plain language and take time to understand the needs of people and teams before jumping to solutions
  • Bring a style that is warm and pragmatic. You're comfortable with ambiguity, confident in your expertise and collaborative in how you work, and happy to share knowledge and flex around what's needed

Even if you don't tick every box, if you're excited by the idea of building a strong people operations function at Bellroy, we'd love to hear from you.

IF YOU WERE HERE LAST WEEK, YOU MIGHT HAVE…

  • Onboarded a new crew member in the US, and made sure contracts, benefits and payroll were set up before their start date
  • Advised a manager on how to approach a performance improvement conversation, then followed up with a summary of next steps and relevant policy guidance
  • Planned out our upcoming performance and compensation review timelines, communicated upcoming changes to internal stakeholders and our crew so they know what to expect
  • Reviewed and updated our leave policies to improve clarity, checking it against current legislation before sharing with our crew
  • Pulled together data for our annual WGEA submission and flagged a couple of areas worth discussing with the CPO
  • Met with the retail team lead to map out workforce planning for two new store openings, including employment structure, onboarding workflows and timelines
  • Kicked off a project to overhaul our P&C pages in our company wiki, starting with a content audit to figure out what's outdated, missing or just hard to find
  • Jumped on a call with our external advisors to clarify a compliance question about employment arrangements in a new market

LOCATION & HOURS

This is a full-time role based at our Collingwood office in Melbourne, with hybrid flexibility.

Start day: We're ready when you are!
