VP of Clinical Quality, Operations, and Innovation

What are we looking for?
This role is a critical member of the leadership team, responsible for overseeing all clinical aspects of the organization. This includes ensuring the highest standards of clinical quality, managing clinical operations, driving regulatory compliance, fostering clinical innovation, and providing strategic clinical leadership both internally and externally. This person will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of virtual mental health and wellness services at BetterHelp and ensuring our services meet the evolving needs of clients and stakeholders.
Reporting to the President, this role will collaborate closely with clinical leadership, product, technology, compliance, and analytics teams to scale a first-class quality infrastructure and foster a culture of continuous improvement across the organization.
What will you do?
Clinical Quality Oversight
- Develop and implement strategies for quality assurance, quality improvement, and patient safety across all virtual mental health services
- Build dashboards and KPIs that leverage clinical performance data to inform decisions, optimize care delivery, and demonstrate value to clients and members
- Ensure clinical services delivered through the virtual platform meet or exceed industry standards and best practices
- Utilize data analytics to identify trends, evaluate performance, and inform decision-making to enhance care and operational efficiency
- Ensure the company maintains all necessary accreditations and certifications, including HIPAA compliance and other regulatory standards
Clinical Operations Management
- Manage and support an existing team of licensed mental health professionals who oversee the operations of mental health services through the virtual platform, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, and accessibility
- Develop protocols for crisis intervention and other critical services in a virtual environment
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and industry regulations (e.g., HIPAA, Joint Commission, NCQA, URAC)
- Prepare and lead accreditation readiness and audit processes
- Partner with legal and compliance teams on risk mitigation and regulatory updates
- Develop and oversee training and professional development programs focused on mental health delivery, clinical excellence, cultural competence, and patient engagement
- Create and refine protocols, guidelines, and workflows that ensure consistent, high-quality care across the network
Clinical Innovation
- Oversee initiatives to enhance the patient care journey through feedback collection, engagement strategies, and experience-driven innovation
- Collaborate with member services, marketing, and product teams to drive improvements in retention, satisfaction, and outcomes
- Together with the President, develop a roadmap for differentiated clinical strategy with a focus on AI and emerging technologies
- Evaluate market trends and clinical growth opportunities that continue to expand BetterHelp’s presence and recognition nationally and internationally
- Collaborate with technology teams to develop and integrate new tools and features that enhance patient care and clinician efficiency
- Stay informed about emerging research and trends in mental health and telehealth, incorporating evidence-based practices into BetterHelp services
Clinical Leadership
- Provide strategic direction for clinical services, aligning with the company’s mission and goals
- Coordinate with other departments such as product, technology, compliance, marketing, and analytics teams
- Serve as the primary clinical spokesperson, representing the company at conferences, with media, and to stakeholders
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including payers, partners, and the mental health community
- Participate in strategic planning and decision-making at the executive level
- Advocate for policies and regulations that support and expand access to virtual mental health care, working with legislative bodies and industry associations

Can I work remotely?
Yes. We operate on PST and candidates in any time zone are welcome to apply. We ask employees to travel to our Mountain View, CA office up to three times per year plus one company-wide offsite to collaborate in person and strengthen working relationships. Travel expenses are covered and reasonable accommodations are made for those under unique circumstances who cannot travel.
Requirements
- Advanced clinical degree (MD, DO, PhD, PsyD, or equivalent in behavioral health such as LCSW, LMFT, LPC)
- Active clinical license (strongly preferred)
- 10 years of experience in clinical quality, safety, and operations, ideally in a digital health company or virtual behavioral health setting
- Deep understanding of telehealth, virtual care delivery, and digital innovation in healthcare
- Ability to clearly articulate key trends, needs, and opportunities in the mental healthcare market and use this information to inform clinical and growth strategy at a national scale
- Experience presenting to health plans, employers, advisory boards, and other external stakeholders on all clinical matters
- Strong analytical skills with experience using data to drive performance improvements and support quality initiatives
- Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and building scalable clinical quality programs
- Experience with quality frameworks and standards such as NCQA, URAC, Joint Commission, and CMS

The base salary range for this position is $250,000 - $310,000. In addition to the base salary, this position is eligible for a performance bonus, equity, and the extensive benefits listed here (subject to eligibility requirements): Teladoc Health Benefits 2025. Total compensation is based on several factors – including, but not limited to, type of position, location, education level, work experience, and certifications.
