Job Title: ACS Enrolled Agent / Tax Resolution Specialist
Location: This position is onsite in Irvine, CA.
Employment Type: Full-time
Pay Range: $65,000-75,000 per year based on experience, qualifications, and skillset with potential opportunity for bonuses
Position Overview:
As a Tax Resolution Specialist, you will play a crucial role in becoming an expert navigator in the complex world of IRS and state tax systems. You'll be the go-to advocate, using your in depth knowledge of tax laws to negotiate the best possible solutions for our clients. Key Responsibilities:
The Tax Resolution Specialist must be able to perform the following tasks:
- Conduct thorough assessments of clients' financial situations, including income, assets, liabilities, and expenses, to determine the most appropriate tax resolution strategy.
- Initiate and manage phone calls with the IRS ACS and state tax agency collections departments to discuss clients' cases, negotiate payment plans, or pursue alternative resolution options.
- Prepare and submit tax resolution proposals, such as Penalty Abatements, Installment Agreements, or Currently Not Collectible status requests, adhering to all IRS and state guidelines.
- Coordinate with Case Managers to gather and organize the necessary financial documentation and supporting materials required for tax resolution submissions.
- Advocate on behalf of clients during negotiations with the IRS and state tax agencies, leveraging knowledge of tax laws and taxpayer rights to achieve the best possible outcomes.
- Maintain detailed records and documentation of all client communications, tax resolution proposals, and interactions with the IRS and state tax agencies.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest IRS and state tax authority policies, procedures, and guidelines related to tax resolution options.
- Collaborate with other tax professionals to develop comprehensive tax resolution strategies for clients.
- Assist in the development and implementation of process improvements and best practices for the tax resolution program.
Required Qualifications:
The Tax Resolution Specialist must have the following experiences:
- Enrolled Agent (EA) certification
- 1-2 years of experience in tax resolution or tax compliance, with a strong focus on IRS ACS and state tax agency collections
- Thorough understanding of IRS and state tax laws, regulations, and procedures related to tax resolution options
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to effectively advocate for clients
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess complex financial situations and develop tailored tax resolution strategies
- Proficient in data gathering, financial analysis, and report writing
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with tax resolution software and tools
- Knowledge of the Taxpayer Advocate Service and other taxpayer assistance programs
- Familiarity with client-facing roles in a professional services or financial services environment
