Director of IT Engineering

Chicago, IL

At Beyond Finance, we've made it our mission to help everyday Americans escape the endless cycle of crippling debt and step into a brighter financial future. Through compassionate, individualized care, a culture focused on compliance and ethics, supportive user-centric technology, and customized financial solutions, we've helped over 1 million clients on their path to a brighter future.

While we're proud of what we've already accomplished, we're searching for new collaborators to help us get to the next level! If you're looking to join a forward-thinking, rapidly growing organization with helping people as its number one goal, we want to hear from you.

The Role

As the Director of IT Engineering, you will lead two teams: End User Computing and Workplace Technology. You will own the roadmap for these teams while staying close to execution, architecting solutions and guiding complex implementations.

Your teams manage the endpoint fleet (Windows, Mac, and virtual desktops) at scale, administer core productivity and identity platforms (Google Workspace, Slack, JumpCloud), and build automation workflows that power business and IT processes like onboarding, offboarding, and data movement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Roadmapping: Define and own the technical roadmap across all three teams. Translate business priorities into a sequenced, actionable plan.
  • Technical Leadership: Architect solutions for complex initiatives, evaluate and challenge engineering designs, and set the technical direction for endpoint management, identity, SaaS platforms, and automation.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop engineers across three functions, including team leads. Drive a culture of ownership, urgency, and continuous improvement.
  • Execution & Delivery: Drive project portfolios from planning through completion. Establish project management and change control practices that create predictability without unnecessary overhead. Identify delays early and remove blockers.
  • Monitoring & Resiliency: Build out monitoring and operational maturity for business-critical platforms and services your teams support.
  • Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner with operations teams to roll out new initiatives that support the business. Manage stakeholder relationships across technical and non-technical audiences. Collaborate with IT Support and Information Security to ensure service quality and security alignment.

Skill Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive IT experience with a strong background in endpoint management, SaaS/identity platform administration, or systems engineering.
  • 5+ years of people management experience, including management of team leads across multiple concurrent workstreams.
  • Experience managing equivalent team and technical scope across multiple domains.
  • Proven ability to operate as both a strategic leader and a hands-on architect.
  • Strong experience managing endpoint fleets at scale across Windows and Mac, including patching, software deployment, and device lifecycle.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate effectively with non-technical business partners.
  • Demonstrated success driving execution in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with or oversight of automation and workflow orchestration platforms.
  • Hands-on scripting ability (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
  • Experience building out monitoring, alerting, and operational resiliency for business-critical IT services.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a technical leader with a high level of drive. You've led multiple teams across different IT disciplines and you know how to build a roadmap, hold a high bar for execution, and get hands-on when the work requires it. You see gaps in monitoring, process, or capability and you close them. You measure your success by the reliability of the platforms your teams own and the growth of the people on those teams.
