Medical Director
Position Overview
The Medical Director is the Medical strategy/content lead on his/her brand(s). They must have a proven record of independently executing the responsibilities and successfully demonstrating the competencies outlined below, and must demonstrate the ability to successfully onboard, train, and mentor others in the Associate Medical Director (AMD), Senior Medical Writer (SMW) and/or Medical Writer (MW) roles. Key Responsibilities:
Content Development & Execution:
- Manages the scope of existing work and assumes primary responsibility for overseeing translation and execution of BGB standards, client expectations, and brand strategy
- Provides strategic guidance to team/brand from kick-off through execution (reviewing for messaging and style)
- Reviews deliverables and ensures that BGB standards, client expectations, and brand strategy are met; assumes lead role in strategy-heavy projects
- Assumes accountability for accuracy of own work and work of reports, and works to address accuracy issues internally as they arise
- Effectively partners with other departments (eg, art, copy, account), as appropriate, to provide out-of-the-box recommendations on how to creatively tell the brand story and reinforce the brand messages
- Writes and annotates content as appropriate
Planning:
- Understands the brands therapeutic space and proactively provides recommendations regarding planned projects to internal and external team
- Functions as Strategic Medical Lead during external project kickoff meetings
- Demonstrates complete understanding of BGB process and can foresee possible challenges and suggest solutions in the project planning stage
- Defines steps and range of time to execute content-related tasks, formalizing content development timing and benchmarks
Client Interface:
- May act as strategic medical brand lead
- Interprets client expectations and incorporates into project execution plans
- May act as Medical lead for a range of projects, calls, advisory boards, and onsite meetings
- Comfortably, clearly, and concisely communicates with clients and KOLs and builds and maintains strong professional relationships
- Proactively initiates discussion with client and drives internal follow-up regarding organic growth opportunities
Agency Interface and Process:
- Understands the role of Medical within the agency and works to set appropriate expectations and operating norms within the team
- Shares best practices and strategic insights with internal team to maximize efficiencies and support team’s therapeutic learning/proficiency
- Leads by example to demonstrate efficiency, teamwork, and superior scientific quality for all deliverables
- Leads by example to utilize conflict resolution skills to address internal and external conflicts
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent)
- 3-4 years of experience in pharmaceutical advertising, ideally in HCP promotional workstreams
- Experience managing and mentoring junior medical team members
- Demonstrated success in partnering with creative, strategy, and account teams
- Experienced in interacting with clients and KOLs
Salary Range: $120,000 - $160,000 USD
BGB Group is headquartered in New York City, and the salary range listed reflects the expected base compensation for this role in the New York City metropolitan area. This position may be performed remotely within the United States. For candidates located outside the New York City area, compensation will be adjusted to reflect the applicable market for the employee’s primary work location. Final compensation will be determined based on geographic location, experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
