Join BILL’s Infrastructure team as a seasoned architect and help drive innovation behind our platform that moves billions of dollars weekly. You’ll be at the heart of enabling SMBs to streamline their financial workflows while empowering our developers to build and scale effortlessly. As part of the Infra team, you'll lead the development of shared infrastructure, data platforms, and tools that create a world-class developer experience, using a platform engineering approach to drive agility, collaboration, and quality. In your first year, you'll take on the exciting challenge of shaping infrastructure across multiple AWS regions, applying cutting-edge software development practices to drive efficiency and innovation.

We are looking for a few key attributes in the ideal candidate:

  • Leadership qualities: Proven thought leadership, persuasive abilities, passion for excellence, and humility to collaborate across teams.
  • Hands-on experience: Self-driven engineer with a track record of building and scaling infrastructure for diverse workloads.
  • Infrastructure modernization: Expertise in modernizing infrastructure to ensure stability and reliability for internal teams and customers.
  • Strong fundamentals: Solid foundation in software engineering and distributed systems, with a focus on repeatability, safety, and availability.
  • Diverse infrastructure experience: Exposure to online, data, and ML infrastructure is a plus.
  • Problem-solving mindset: High standards of excellence, backed by experience, with an incremental approach to tackling big challenges.
  • Autonomy: Ability to independently choose areas for deep technical exploration with a focus on impactful improvements.
  • Collaboration skills: Skilled at working across teams to foster a collaborative environment that drives innovation.
    Passion for excellence: Commitment to continuous improvement and alignment with the company’s goals and values.

We would love to chat if you have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent — advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in e-commerce or fintech companies building and operating infrastructure at scale on AWS
  • Hands-on in programming languages like Java, Python, or Go
  • Proficient in cloud computing infrastructure and the underlying concepts
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Public-facing impact (publications, talks, articles, open source contributions, etc.) is a big plus

The estimated salary  range for this role is noted below for our San Jose based role.  Our ranges for each role and job level are based on a variety of factors including candidate experience, expertise, and geographic location and may vary from the amounts listed above. The role is also eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, flexible spending & health savings account, paid holidays, paid time off, and other company benefits.

San Jose pay range

$233,100 - $291,400 USD

Our ranges for each role and job level are based on a variety of factors including candidate experience, expertise, and geographic location and may vary from the amounts listed below. The role is also eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, flexible spending & health savings account, paid holidays, paid time off, and other company benefits. The estimated salary  ranges noted below roles in the specific  geographic zones

Zone 1- San Francisco Bay Area CA (includes HQ), New York City, Seattle

$233,100 - $291,400 USD

Zone 2- CA (Non San Francisco Bay Area), Austin TX, Massachusetts

$209,800 - $262,300 USD

Zone 3 -Utah (includes Utah office), Houston TX (office), Florida, North Carolina

$198,100 - $247,700 USD
