We are looking for a Process Engineering Intern whose academic interests span bioengineering and data science. This role will involve a deep dive into the data infrastructure, metrics, and systems used to support high quality production of cfDNA-based NIPT assays. This internship will be an immersive exploration of data systems in a fast paced, rapidly growing biotech and will provide an opportunity to see first hand how scaling organizations utilize data to inform critical business decisions. The role will require an understanding of molecular techniques and modern sequencing technology. This internship will also provide an excellent opportunity to explore the emerging potential of AI tools and their applications within the biotech sector. The Process Engineering Intern is a hybrid (onsite 2-3 days/week) position and reports to the Process Engineer.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in designing, executing, and optimizing wet lab experiments aimed at improving process efficiency and reliability in prenatal diagnostic testing.
- Perform hands-on laboratory procedures, including reagent preparation, pipetting, PCR, nucleic acid extraction, and other molecular biology techniques.
- Explore and evaluate new technologies and molecular biology methodologies to enhance assay performance and efficiency.
- Contribute to the generation and analysis of data to assess quality, consistency, and reproducibility of experimental processes.
- Collaborate closely with process engineering team members to interpret results and troubleshoot experimental challenges effectively.
- Adhere rigorously to lab safety standards, maintaining cleanliness and organization within the wet lab area.
- Participate in regular team meetings to discuss project progress, challenges, and solutions.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related scientific discipline.
- Hands-on laboratory experience with molecular biology techniques such as PCR, qPCR, DNA/RNA extraction, and reagent preparation preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately record experimental data and maintain organized lab records according to good laboratory practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including basic data analysis experience using tools such as Excel, Python, or R.
- Excellent attention to detail, reliability, and ability to maintain high-quality laboratory practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate experimental results and insights effectively.
- Flexibility and willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques, technologies, and research areas quickly.
- Familiarity with standard laboratory safety protocols and commitment to maintaining a safe and organized workspace.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

For this position, the base pay rate is: $4,333 per month.
