We are seeking a Senior Development Associate, Automation – Oncology to join our dynamic Oncology Development team. As a key technical contributor, you will support the development and optimization of assays and automation processes to scale our high-complexity and high-growth clinical laboratory for groundbreaking oncology tests. You will work closely with interdisciplinary teams to implement and refine processes that integrate chemistry changes,, liquid handling automation, and algorithm refinement, contributing to the advancement and scalability of our oncology diagnostics products. This role is primarily onsite at our Menlo Park location and reports to the Sr. Automation Scientist, Development, Oncology.
Responsibilities:
- Support the development and optimization of molecular biology processes for larger-scale oncology diagnostics products in the development pipeline.
- Collaborate with Research, bioinformatics, process engineering, and CLIA teams to implement solutions that integrate into product development workflows and production facilities.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of automation solutions for new assays and diagnostic features.
- Assist with data analysis and bioinformatics tasks to support test development and refinement, ensuring accuracy and precision.
- Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to help develop scalable diagnostic tests.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation, including experimental designs, process optimizations, validations, and standard operating procedures.
- Present updates on assigned tasks and project progress to team members and management.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (preferred) in Chemistry, Engineering, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related field.
- Strong skills in statistical and first-principle thinking.
- 1–3 years of experience in a research or industry setting, preferably with exposure to automation engineering or process development.
- Experience with liquid handling systems (Agilent Bravo, Hamilton STAR, Biomek, etc.) and/or next-generation sequencing technologies is a plus.
- Proficiency in coding languages such as Python, Java, and strong data analysis skills.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey scientific and engineering concepts.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with others within the team and across different teams.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Molecular biology/nucleic acid chemistry experience.
- Background in bioinformatics.
- Experience working in regulated environments (CLIA, CAP, FDA).
- Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).

At BillionToOne, we are proud to offer a combination of a (1) base pay range (actual amount offered is based on experience and salary/equity options split that the candidate chooses), (2) generous equity options offering, (3) corporate bonus program, on top of (4) industry leading company benefits (free healthcare options, 401k match, very generous fully paid parental leave, etc.).
For this position, we offer a total compensation package of $112,750 per year, including a base pay range of $83,232 - $93,636 per year.
