Group Leader, Immune Cell Reprogramming

New York, NY (Hybrid)

Biohub is the first large-scale initiative bringing frontier AI models, massive compute, and frontier experimental capabilities under one roof. We're building a general-purpose system to accelerate scientific discovery, integrating frontier AI models, biological foundation models, and lab capabilities, with the ultimate goal of curing disease. Our technology powers scientists around the world, translating AI capabilities into tools that accelerate research everywhere.

The Team

Our immune cell reprogramming team integrates foundational research on immunology and disease biology with AI-modeling to develop engineered cells that harness our own immune system to detect and treat early signs of age-related diseases, like cancer, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s. These technologies will enable precise, context-dependent therapeutic responses only when and where it is needed. You can learn more about our work here

The Opportunity

Biohub NY seeks to recruit an outstanding scientist to serve as Group Leader (equivalent to a Principal Investigator in academia), leading our Immune Cell Reprogramming research program.

The Group Leader will build, lead, and oversee a small research team focused on elucidating immune cell mechanisms in disease at the cellular and molecular levels, with the ultimate goal of developing novel immunotherapies. The program should include a strong research emphasis on T cell exhaustion, including strategies to understand, prevent, and/or reverse this process.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant, deeply interdisciplinary community of scientists working at the intersection of immunology, cell engineering, and translational medicine—representing one of the largest and most collaborative ecosystems of its kind.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate a strong track record of scientific achievement, along with a commitment to collaboration in a highly interdisciplinary environment.

Applicants are required to provide a cover letter and a 3-page research statement.

What You'll Do

  • Identify, recruit, manage and mentor cell reprogramming lab members working under his/her supervision.
  • Lead and actively participate in an innovative, vigorous, and collaborative research program aligned with the mission of CZ Biohub NY with the goal of elucidating the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying cellular changes in chronic infection, cancer, or aging.
  • Play a collaborative role in our collective efforts to bioengineer immune cells for the detection and prevention of diseased states both within the Biohub NY and across the ecosystem of Biohubs and CZI activities.
  • Demonstrating outstanding productivity based on a compelling record of scientific publication, collaboration, and IP generation.
  • Play a collaborative role in our collective efforts to elucidate critical immune cell mechanisms governing tissue residency and detection of aberrant cell states, with the aim of detecting and preventing diseased states.
  • Develop a transformative research vision and providing technical guidance and mentorship to team members.
  • Engage with colleagues throughout the Biohub and Biohubs ecosystem to uphold our values of scholarly excellence, innovation, open communication, hands-on collaboration, partnership, and research opportunities.
  • Clearly communicate progress and results to colleagues and to the leadership team.
  • Publish and disseminate impactful findings and the products of your research as preprints (medRxiv, bioRxiv) and/or software repositories (e.g., GitHub) and embrace the OpenScience policy of the Biohub network.
  • Collaborate with the CZ Biohub team to patent and license technologies resulting from your research.

What You'll Bring

  • PhD or MD with relevant research experience.
  • An exceptional publication record demonstrating both the candidate’s creativity and productivity
  • A minimum of 3 years post-doctoral experience or clinical training
  • Demonstrated leadership, track record of innovation, and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Supervisory or mentoring experience is a plus but not required for early-career applicants, but expected for more senior candidates.
