KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Independently deliver complete patient-facing features from concept through implementation and release across the React Native mobile app and supporting backend services.
  • Own full vertical slices of work, including UI implementation, GraphQL API integration, backend updates, loading states, error states, accessibility, and edge-case handling.
  • Build and ship high-quality patient-facing workflows such as appointment scheduling, care plan tracking, messaging, and other core user experiences.
  • Improve mobile application quality and stability by reducing crash rates, improving latency on critical flows, and implementing monitoring, alerting, error tracking, structured logging, and debuggability.
  • Extend backend models and GraphQL APIs as needed to support product features while maintaining clean service boundaries and avoiding unnecessary technical debt.
  • Ensure secure and compliant handling of sensitive patient data in all feature development, including safe logging, secure data handling, and alignment with HIPAA-conscious engineering practices.
  • Contribute to internal clinical workflow tooling and backend services as business priorities shift.
  • Work within the architecture established by the Staff App Engineer while identifying and raising opportunities to improve delivery speed, user experience, and technical quality.
  • Strengthen day-to-day engineering practices through high-quality code, testing, thoughtful pull request reviews, pairing, and practical improvements to CI/CD and developer experience.
  • Partner effectively with product, design, and engineering stakeholders to deliver polished, reliable, patient-facing experiences.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 to 7+ years of experience building and shipping production software, with the ability to independently deliver high-quality end-to-end features.
  • Strong production experience with React Native, including navigation, state management, platform-specific behavior, performance debugging, and shipping mobile features in a production environment.
  • Experience working across the full stack, including React Native on the frontend and GraphQL plus backend services on the server side.
  • Ability to consume GraphQL effectively on the client side and extend backend schemas, resolvers, and data models when required for feature delivery.
  • Strong understanding of secure application development, including encryption, secure storage, access controls, audit logging, safe handling of sensitive data, and thoughtful evaluation of third-party dependencies.
  • Ability to build complete user-facing features that account for accessibility, usability, loading behavior, edge cases, and production readiness.
  • Experience working in a fast-moving, startup or greenfield environment with evolving requirements and limited process overhead.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain tradeoffs clearly and work effectively with engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ownership, follow-through, and pragmatic decision-making, including knowing when to ask for guidance and when to move quickly with imperfect information.
  • Experience using AI coding tools as a regular part of the development workflow while maintaining strong engineering judgment and code quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Python/Django backend development.
  • Familiarity with mobile CI/CD, app store submission, beta distribution, feature flagging, staged rollouts, and production monitoring.
  • Experience implementing accessibility in React Native applications.
  • Experience with Expo and EAS toolchain.
  • Experience with offline-first mobile application patterns and data synchronization.
  • Familiarity with FHIR resources or clinical data models.
  • Strong TypeScript skills.
  • Strong product and UI/UX sensibility.
