Director, Marketing

Cambridge, Massachusetts

About the Company

Bios Life is developing next-generation cancer surveillance technology that modernizes and scales long-term cancer follow-up care. We integrate evidence-based clinical frameworks, technology-enabled workflows, and diagnostics into accessible, high-quality screening and survivorship models. The company is based in Cambridge, Ma with an office in the UK.

About the Role

We are seeking a Director of Marketing to build and lead Bios Life’s marketing strategy as we bring a new approach to cancer surveillance and survivorship to market. As an early member of the team, this individual will be responsible for establishing a differentiated and trusted brand and translating that brand into an integrated, multi-channel marketing strategy across digital, social, print, content, events, and other relevant channels.

This role will work closely with our Clinical Care teams, Commercial Leads, Product Development and Research, and Patient Experience Leads to ensure that our positioning, messaging, and market presence resonate with patients, consumers, providers, partners, and other key audiences. The Director will bring a strong consumer marketing orientation while also working effectively with external agencies, consultants, and industry partners to build Bios Life’s presence and credibility within the broader healthcare and oncology ecosystem.

This is a highly hands-on role for someone who is equally comfortable developing strategy and rolling up their sleeves to execute. The Director will initially operate as an individual contributor and agency leader, with the opportunity to build and lead a multi-channel marketing team as the company grows.

The role is expected to report on an interim basis to the CEO, while the senior commercial leadership team is built out.

  • Establish and maintain brand standards that create consistency across every external touchpoint.
  • Ensure messaging appropriately balances accessibility, empathy, credibility, and scientific rigor within the sensitive context of cancer surveillance and survivorship.

Omnichannel Marketing Strategy and Execution

  • Develop and execute an integrated, multi-channel marketing strategy spanning digital, social media, print, content, email, events, partnerships, and other relevant channels. ● Translate company priorities into marketing plans and campaigns that build awareness, engagement, trust, and demand.
  • Determine the appropriate channel mix for different audiences and continuously refine marketing investments based on performance and market feedback.
  • Create an integrated marketing calendar and operating cadence that aligns campaigns, content, events, product launches, and other key company initiatives.
  • Ensure a consistent and compelling brand experience across channels and customer touchpoints.

Consumer and Patient Marketing

  • Develop marketing strategies designed to reach, educate, and engage consumers and patients throughout the cancer surveillance and survivorship journey.
  • Build campaigns and content that make complex clinical concepts understandable, approachable, and actionable for consumers.

  • Develop audience segmentation and personas to inform messaging, content, channel strategy, and campaign development.
  • Use consumer insights, feedback, and marketing performance data to continuously improve how Bios Life reaches and engages its audiences.

Digital, Social, Content and Print

  • Lead Bios Life’s digital marketing presence, including website strategy, social media, email marketing, digital campaigns, and other online channels.
  • Develop and oversee a content strategy that establishes Bios Life as a credible and differentiated voice in cancer surveillance and survivorship.
  • Oversee the development of marketing collateral, presentations, patient-facing materials, digital assets, print materials, and other branded communications.

Agency and External Partner Management

  • Identify, select, and manage external marketing agencies, consultants, creative partners, and other specialized resources as needed.
  • Establish clear objectives, scopes, budgets, timelines, and performance expectations for external partners.
  • Serve as the internal owner of agency relationships while ensuring external partners deeply understand Bios Life’s brand, audiences, and strategic priorities.
  • Balance effective use of outside expertise with the ability to execute directly and move quickly in an early-stage environment.

Industry Presence and Thought Leadership

  • Partner with company leadership, Clinical Care, and Commercial teams to build Bios Life’s visibility and credibility within oncology, healthcare, diagnostics, and survivorship communities.
  • Support the company’s presence at conferences, industry events, speaking engagements, and other strategic forums.
  • Develop thought leadership and external communications that reinforce Bios Life’s expertise and positioning.
  • Work with agencies and consultants, where appropriate, on PR, media relations, industry communications, and reputation-building initiatives.

Marketing Analytics and Performance

  • Establish meaningful marketing KPIs across brand awareness, engagement, acquisition, channel performance, campaign effectiveness, the unit economics of growth (CAC, conversion, payback, LTV:CAC, retention). and other relevant measures.
  • Build practical reporting and dashboards that enable the company to understand what is working and where marketing resources should be focused.
  • Use performance data, consumer insights, and market feedback to continuously improve campaigns, messaging, and channel strategy.
  • Manage the marketing budget and make thoughtful recommendations regarding investment and resource allocation.

Trust, Compliance and Clinical Alignment

  • Partner closely with Clinical, Regulatory, and Legal advisors to ensure marketing materials and campaigns appropriately reflect clinical evidence and comply with applicable healthcare advertising, privacy, and regulatory requirements.

Building the Marketing Function

  • Establish the foundational processes, tools, agencies, metrics, and operating rhythms needed to build a scalable marketing function.
  • Assess future marketing capability and headcount needs as the company grows. ● Over time, recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing multi-channel marketing team. ● Help define the longer-term marketing organization and capabilities required as Bios Life moves from early-stage launch to scale.

Ideal candidate profile

  • 8+ years of progressive marketing experience, ideally within consumer health, digital health, healthcare, diagnostics, oncology, wellness, or another consumer-oriented healthcare environment.
  • Strong consumer marketing experience with demonstrated ability to understand consumer behavior and translate insights into effective positioning, messaging, campaigns, and experiences.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing integrated, multi-channel marketing strategies across digital, social, content, email, print, events, and other channels.
  • Experience owning or significantly shaping brand strategy, positioning, and messaging, ideally for an emerging or evolving brand.
  • Strong digital marketing capabilities and an understanding of how digital channels work together to build awareness, engagement, and demand.
  • Real ownership of budget, CAC, and channel decisions, not only brand and campaign oversight.
  • Experience developing compelling content and translating complex, technical, scientific, or clinical concepts into accessible consumer-facing communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage marketing agencies, consultants, creative partners, and other external resources effectively.
  • Comfortable representing a company externally and partnering with agencies and executives to build visibility within relevant industry circles.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with clinical, commercial, product, patient experience, or similarly diverse internal teams.
  • Strong understanding of marketing measurement and the ability to use data and consumer insights to make decisions and optimize marketing investments.
  • Experience working within a regulated or highly sensitive environment is strongly preferred; healthcare experience and familiarity with the nuances of patient and health-related communications are particularly valuable.
  • Hands-on, entrepreneurial operator who is comfortable building the marketing function rather than inheriting a mature team, infrastructure, and budget.
  • Able to move comfortably between high-level strategy and day-to-day execution. ● Strong executive presence, judgment, written communication, and storytelling skills.
  • Comfortable operating in an early-stage environment where priorities will evolve as the company learns, grows, and brings its offering to market.
  • Demonstrated potential to build and lead a marketing team as the organization scales. Background in one or more of the following areas would be particularly relevant:
  • Consumer health or digital health
  • Oncology, cancer screening, surveillance, or survivorship
  • Diagnostics or consumer lab testing
  • Healthcare navigation or specialty care
  • Patient engagement and patient experience
  • Health-tech or technology-enabled healthcare
