POSITION: Chief of Staff - Supply Chain - China Office
REPORTS TO: COO
LOCATION: West Coast based (hybrid), up to 50% travel to China
Headquartered in Los Angeles, CA with an office in New York, NY, Birdy Grey supports remote work for eligible roles. We ask that all employees travel to either office once a quarter. #LI-Hybrid
Birdy Grey is looking for a strategic Chief of Staff to help grow our Birdy Grey China office and ensure the success of our evolving supply chain requirements. This role requires a candidate bilingual in Mandarin (Native proficiency) and English (fluent). This role will be required to work PST hours and join meetings during China business hours. This role will travel up to 50% of their time to China. The right candidate will have spent 3-4 years in a consulting role, and must have spent significant time living in China.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work collaboratively with US and China leadership to define, prioritize, and execute critical supply chain projects & continuous improvement efforts
- Use strategic frameworks and analytics to tackle problems in an organized, hypothesis- and data-driven manner
- Scope and manage on-time execution of complex, cross-functional projects across the US and China teams
- Ensure that BG is using the China team’s supply chain expertise to accomplish company goals by acting as a thought partner, translator, and liaison to between the China and US teams
- Bridge language barriers and cultural differences between the US and China teams to ensure that we are solving the root cause of problems as they arise
- Work in a very fast-paced environment that requires excellent collaboration skills with team members at all levels
- Monitor performance of the business by ensuring core KPIs are met and understanding the driving forces behind them
THE RIGHT CANDIDATE: QUALIFICATIONS & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree Required
EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS:
- Native Mandarin speaker, bilingual fluent in English
- 6-7 years of professional experience
- 1-2 years of professional experience in China highly preferred
- 4+ years of experience in management/strategy consulting firm
- 3+ years experience working in the United States or closely with a US team
- Ability to travel up to 40% of the time to China, on a quarterly basis for extended periods mostly Guangdong province)
- Ability to work China business hours
- Fashion & apparel supply chain experience preferred
- Demonstrated track record of exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience managing cross-functional projects (e.g., design, production, operations, etc.)
- Strong executive presence and communication skills
- Strong ability to identify and prioritize the most impactful business issues
- Ability to distill complex issues into structured frameworks and action plans
- Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment with a high degree of autonomy
- Ability to develop strong collaborative relationships with multiple stakeholders
- Ability to multi-task and handle several deadlines simultaneously
- Expert excel skills to analyze data and build complex dynamic models from scratch
- High degree of comfort with messy, complex data sets
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, presentation and written)
- Hard working and willing to roll sleeves up - no job is too big or too small
