About the Opportunity
The Product Team at B Lab drives innovation and digital transformation to meet user needs while supporting organizational growth. By advancing technologies and optimizing operations, the team enables B Lab to deliver impactful solutions across all departments. Responsible for developing new products, defining strategy, building roadmaps, and shaping B Lab’s technology ecosystem, the team uses insights from users, technology, and business goals to prioritize what gets built, communicate updates, and measure success. Working closely with the Engineering Team in a cross-functional, agile environment, the Product Team operates across multiple squads focused on key areas: the B Impact App (Assessment and Identity/Intake), Salesforce, Data, and exploratory product development. Through agile methodologies and iterative development, the teams remain responsive to feedback and adaptable to changing needs.
The Product Owner for the Assessment plays a critical role in shaping the core of the B Impact digital experience, the foundation for both B Corp Certification and Impact Management services. Working closely with the Intake Team—responsible for managing user and company profiles to define scope and access rights—the Product Owner ensures users have a seamless, tailored experience for measuring and improving their performance against B Lab’s standards.
This role focuses on continuously evolving the Assessment component of B Impact, balancing the integrity of the standards with usability and effectiveness. Key responsibilities include defining and prioritizing the product backlog, collaborating across agile squads, and aligning development efforts with organizational goals and user needs.
By connecting the work of the Standards, Engineering, and Assurance teams with broader stakeholder input, the Product Owner ensures the Assessment remains a trusted and impactful tool for driving social and environmental performance worldwide.
Core Responsibilities
Product Backlog Management [35%]
- Own and prioritize the product backlog for the Assessment Squad, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and user needs.
- Define and refine backlog items, including epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria, to guide development efforts.
- Integrate with multiple squads and platforms to ensure seamless integration of user and company profile requirements into the assessment experience.
Stakeholder Collaboration and Alignment [25%]
- Act as the primary liaison between the Standards policy writers and Operational, and Assurance teams to ensure the Assessment supports certification and impact management objectives.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to gather feedback, validate priorities, and communicate updates on assessment improvements.
- Collaborate with process teams to monitor changes, support updates to operational workflows, and assist with knowledge management and change management initiatives.
Agile Team Collaboration [20%]
- Collaborate with cross-functional squads to deliver iterative improvements.
- Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives, ensuring team efforts remain focused and impactful.
- Use agile methodologies to adapt to user feedback and evolving priorities effectively.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting [20%]
- Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the Assessment’s usability and impact.
- Measure the effectiveness of updates and features, providing insights to inform future development.
- Report progress and outcomes to leadership and key stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability.
Major objectives for the role in the first 6-12 months
Manage and Prioritize Existing Backlog
- Take ownership of the product backlog created by the consultant, reviewing and refining the backlog to ensure it aligns with B Lab’s strategic objectives.
- Work with cross-functional teams to prioritize and deliver key features for the Assessment product, ensuring a seamless experience for users in the B Corp Certification and Impact Management processes.
Prepare for the Release and Roll-out of the New Assessment
- Lead the preparation and execution for the release of a new Assessment, aligned with evolved standards, working closely with the delivery program team to ensure smooth integration across squads.
- Gather user feedback and prioritize enhancements to improve usability, making the Assessment product a more effective tool for measuring social and environmental performance.
About You
- 3+ Years of Experience: Proven track record of owning product features and leading product design, including feature breakdown, use case creation, and requirements definition.
- Prioritization and Roadmapping: Ability to manage and prioritize product backlogs, define user stories, and ensure the team’s work aligns with business goals and user needs.
- Agile/Scrum Processes: Hands-on experience in working in an Agile environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver iterative and valuable outcomes.
- User-Centered Design (UCD): Knowledge of prototyping, usability testing, and applying UCD principles to create user-friendly products that meet business objectives.
- User Research: Ability to conduct user research, including interviews and synthesis of findings, to drive informed product decisions.
- Strategic and Tactical Execution: Ability to think strategically to meet business objectives and manage tactical execution to deliver on those objectives.
- Extensive experience with leveraging Jira for backlog management
- Experience with using Tableau or a comparable tool for data driven decision making
- Fluency in English
Compensation Details
B Lab has a compensation plan that includes:
- An annual salary in the range of $118,000 - $126,300 based on experience and skills
- Excellent health benefits package including access to medical, vision and dental coverage
- Paid time off for vacation - in your first year, you’ll start with 15 days (prorated in a to your start date)
- Additional paid time off for organizational closures
- 403(b) with a match of up to 3%
- Unlimited sick and personal time - if you need it, use it
- After your first year of employment, 40 hours paid time off for community service; paid parental leave; and time and budget for your professional development (we assess this PD budget annually)
