About the Team

The Knowledge Team at B Lab plays a vital role in supporting the organization’s certification program. The Team is responsible for developing and organizing information across all facets of the Standards, Certification, and Product Delivery department—including the standards, certification model, digital tools, and key operational processes. The team also leads the creation of resources and training materials, ensuring they are accessible and relevant to a wide range of operational roles and B Lab’s global network of partners. Additionally, they manage a customer service ticketing system and maintain an external knowledge base, helping to ensure seamless operations and consistent access to essential information.

About the Opportunity

B Lab Global is seeking a passionate and experienced Instructional Designer to join our team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of the global B Corp Movement by empowering businesses to adopt sustainable practices and drive positive social and environmental impact. The ideal candidate will play a key role in working with subject matter experts to design, develop, and deliver e-learning courses, live webinars, and other learning solutions from end-to-end focused on B Lab’s new standards and assurance processes, as part of a broader Knowledge Team. This is a great opportunity for someone deeply committed to making a meaningful impact through their work to exercise a variety of skills. B Lab is a remote-first, global organization, and this role will require a high level of independence and collaboration across time zones.

Core Responsibilities 

Instructional Design (50%)

  • Project manage and execute the end-to-end creation of e-learning and multimedia courses in the Learning Management System to meet delivery deadlines.
  • Work with subject matter experts to self-direct the design of course objectives.
  • Conduct research, leverage written resources, and partner with subject matter experts to develop content.
  • Design storyboards for e-learning and multimedia courses to meet the needs of different learner audiences.
  • Plan and facilitate blended learning solutions to supplement self-paced courses and provide additional support to learners, including live webinars and virtual workshops.

Course Development (40%)

  • Develop interactive learning and multimedia courses in Thinkific – B Lab’s learning management system (LMS) – and ensure seamless delivery, troubleshooting technical issues, and optimizing user experience.
  • Use multimedia tools to create learning modules incorporating animations, video, infographics, photographs and design elements to enhance the learning experience and cater to diverse learning preferences.
  • Apply design principles and B Lab brand and style guidelines to design visually appealing content that effectively communicates course content and aligns with B Lab’s overall look and tone.
  • Work with subject matter experts to record high quality videos virtually, providing speaker coaching.
  • Edit videos to ensure professional audio and visual quality and consistency.
  • Ensure accessibility standards are followed, including the use of caption files.
  • Maintain highly-organized asset libraries of all visual elements to allow for content updates and implement updates to reflect changes in regulations, best practices, and stakeholder feedback as needed.
  • Design pages and course pathways in the learning management system to ensure seamless delivery of e-learning courses
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, and optimize user experience.
  • Support the migration of content to a new learning management system.

Admin, Maintenance & Facilitation (10%)

  • Leverage technology to ensure a smooth learner experience, including troubleshooting access issues and other bugs. 
  • Review and edit existing e-learning course library to ensure that content is maintained up-to-date and accurate.
  • Set SMART goals and track data to evaluate success measures 
  • Support learning management system administration, and organization and naming conventions.
  • Establish and document training and learning processes

 

Major Objectives for the first 6-12 months

  • E-learning course development: Develop a series of asynchronous micro-learning courses that support key operational changes for the evolution of B Lab’s assurance model
  • Up-skilling live components: Plan and host live sessions that complement e-learning courses, design engaging activities and discussion, and coordinate speakers and facilitators
  • Communications & Engagement: Promote and communicate up-skilling to BLG employees and the network and track engagement and learning outcomes

About You

  • 2-4 years of experience in instructional design, adult education, or training delivery
  • 2-4 years of experience in instructional media production or eLearning content development
  • 2-4 years of experience with eLearning & content authoring tools (Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, and Vyond).
  • Proficient with Learning Management Systems
  • Experienced with video editing software (Adobe After Effects & Primiere)
  • 2-4 years in graphic design, including layout, image creation, and graphic organizers
  • Experience with video creation in a remote work environment, including coaching video subjects in use of tools such as webcams, ring lights, etc..
  • Concise, proactive, and inclusive communicator with the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and engaging manner to diverse audiences.
  • Compelling storyteller at ease with meeting facilitation and public speaking and proficient at creating learning-centered and engaging presentations.
  • High degree of emotional intelligence and fluency in customer support to adapt and respond to a variety of learning styles and needs.
  • Attention to detail, including spelling and grammar accuracy.
  • Effective project manager, deft at prioritization and organization with the ability to balance competing priorities to meet goals and deadlines
  • Self-motivated with the ability to thrive in a remote-first environment and with little oversight as well as collaborate productively as part of a team, across departments, and with external stakeholders
  • Data and research-driven to assess impact, keeping up with advances in instructional design and adult learning to implement learning solutions
  • Fluency with social and environmental sustainability principles (climate crisis, human rights, etc.), and best practices in responsible business
  • Passion for driving positive social and environmental change and a commitment to B Lab's mission and values preferred.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

  • Communications, writing, or filmmaking experience
  • Verbal or written ability in a language other than English


Compensation Details

B Lab has a compensation plan that includes:

  • An annual salary in the range of $67,700 - $72,400 based on experience and skills
  • Excellent health benefits package including access to medical, vision and dental coverage
  • Paid time off for vacation - in your first year, you’ll start with 15 days (prorated in a to your start date)
  • Additional paid time off for organizational closures
  • 403(b) with a match of up to 3%
  • Unlimited sick and personal time - if you need it, use it
  • After your first year of employment, 40 hours paid time off for community service; paid parental leave; and time and budget for your professional development (we assess this PD budget annually)
