About the Job
At Blackbird, we believe every guest should feel like a VIP the moment they walk into a restaurant. Whether it’s last-minute tables, welcome drinks, off-menu items, or exclusive perks, we’re building a platform that helps restaurants identify, connect with, and reward their guests in meaningful and personalized ways.
Our vision? The more you check in at your favorite spots, the more you unlock—from unique rewards to seamless direct messaging for reservations. With each visit, you’ll earn $FLY, our universal rewards currency, which you can use across our network of outstanding restaurants.
Responsibilities
- Design across platforms. Craft intuitive, elegant product experiences for iOS, Android, and Web — meeting users where they are.
- Own the interaction layer. Define how the product feels — from microinteractions and gestures to layout behavior and transitions.
- Bring clarity to Figma. Document your work with clean flows, components, specs, and annotations that make handoff seamless and implementation smooth.
- Work cross-functionally. Partner with PMs, engineers, and fellow designers from early ideas through polished execution.
- Shape design systems. Help evolve shared patterns and components that make our work more scalable, consistent, and efficient.
- Contribute to critique culture. Share thoughtful, detail-oriented feedback — and invite it in return — to raise the bar for our design practice.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of product design experience: You’ve worked on digital products within cross-functional teams and know how to ship real things with real constraints.
- Interaction craft: You care how things feel — not just how they look. You sweat the microinteractions, transitions, and behavioral details that make an experience sing.
- Figma mastery: You’re organized, thoughtful, and efficient — from components and prototyping to clean documentation that others can follow with ease.
- Strong visual fundamentals: You have a sharp eye for typography, layout, hierarchy, and color — and use them to create clarity and cohesion.
- Systems thinking: You design for scale and consistency, not just isolated screens. You think in patterns and how things fit together.
- Clear communicator: You share your thinking early and often — with teammates, PMs, engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Always learning: You’re humble, curious, and open to feedback — excited to grow with the team.
- Fast and focused: You’re comfortable moving quickly and producing a high volume of thoughtful work in an evolving environment.
- Motion fluency: You understand the basics of animation and prototyping, and how motion can enhance usability and delight.
- Accessibility awareness: You aim to create inclusive experiences and are familiar with foundational accessibility principles.
Nice to Haves
- A brand design itch: We’re a small team building from the ground up, and we welcome designers who can zoom out to evolve our visual identity and brand holistically — from product UI to marketing moments.
- An engineer’s mindset: Whether you write code or just think in systems, understanding how things are built helps you design with clarity, feasibility, and performance in mind.
- Strategic instincts: You can distill complex or abstract business goals into intuitive, communicable design concepts — turning “what if” ideas into real, understandable experiences.
- Love for food and dining: Whether you’re a home cook, restaurant regular, or just curious about what people eat and why — a genuine passion for food helps you connect with our mission and our users.
