Hardware Technician
Overview
Black Canyon Consulting (BCC) is actively looking for Hardware Technician to support our work for the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the National Library of Medicine (NLM), an institute of the National Institutes of Health.
This position will work closely within the hardware engineering team on the development of the company's embedded system prototypes. The ideal candidate will have experience with PCB assembly, PCB rework, and a variety product testing methods. Experience with 3D printing, machining, and electromechanical product assembly is a plus. You should be well-versed in complex mechanical or electronic systems and possess excellent problem-solving abilities, as well as a creative approach to your tasks.

- Solder both through-hole and surface mount components down to 0201
- Use DMMs, DAQs, oscilloscopes, and other measurement and test equipment
- Operation of 3D printers, both FDM and SLA
- Assembly and teardown of lab equipment, desktop production lines, and test fixtures
- Run test protocols under the direction of a senior engineer
- Work with a cross-functional team of engineers
- Learn new processes, test methods, and skills
- Work with hand tools to build prototype and production camera units
- Build cables/harnesses according to engineering drawings
- Be the primary assembler for small production runs (2-50 units)
- Manage the lab; all lab organization, maintenance, cleaning, and facilities interactions
Required Skills:
- 5+ years of experience as a technician in a relevant role
- High school diploma or equivalent required; ASEE or equivalent experience a plus
- Running test protocols under the direction of a senior engineer
- Willingness to learn and provide dedication to completing tasks on time
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Self-starter willing to take on a variety of tasks
- Competent with Microsoft Office
- Ability and willingness to learn new processes and skills
- Ability to work with hand tools in a lab/shop environment
- Must be US citizen or green card holder to work in the US
Desired Skills:
- Experience with optical, environmental, drop, or shock and vibration testing
- Previous experience with issue tracking systems and wiki document editing
- Previous experience assembling or testing camera or LIDAR systems
