Case Study Task

You have a new barista joining one of your stores! This new teammate has never worked in coffee before, but is eager to learn. Please record yourself demonstrating how you would teach this new hire the following topics:

  1. Teach a newly hired barista, who has never worked in coffee before, how to dial in espresso.
  2. Teach a newly hired barista, who has never worked in coffee before, how to steam latte textured milk and pour a heart.

Fast forward a few weeks. The same new barista is working a shift at a cafe where you pop in to say hi. You notice while in line that the new barista is not making drinks to standard like you taught them, and their hospitality isn’t quite up to standard.

Please create a training plan that you will propose to the manager of the store in an effort to support this barista’s development. Consider the following when creating your plan (timeline, training methods, online learning modules, in-person training, any manager support, 1:1 conversations, what success looks like, etc)

Deliverables

  • 2 videos, each under 2 minutes for the teaching demonstrations
  • A documented training plan for a new hire that is not performing to standard
    • What training support would you recommend?
    • What timeline do you propose?
    • How would you evaluate the success of your training plan?
  • Any other supplemental material that you would like to provide to support this new barista.
