THE ROLE
As an Underwriting Associate based in our India office, you will be at the very heart of Oakbrook's mission to provide fair and responsible lending. You will play a critical role in supporting our UK underwriting function, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our lending decisions.
This isn't just a traditional underwriting role; you will be on the front line of a business actively integrating Generative AI into its core processes. You'll have the unique opportunity to work with, and help refine, the next generation of fintech tools in a fast-paced and progressive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed reviews of loan applications, verifying applicant documentation for completeness and authenticity.
- Perform rigorous analysis of financial data, including bank statements and credit reports, to assess affordability and creditworthiness.
- Collaborate closely with the underwriting team, preparing clear and concise summaries to support robust and fair lending decisions.
- Ensure all underwriting activities adhere to strict regulatory standards and internal credit policies.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to the evolution of our GenAI-enabled underwriting systems.
ABOUT YOU
You are a highly analytical and detail-oriented professional who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You're comfortable with ambiguity and change, seeing them as opportunities to learn and grow. With a proven track record in financial operations, you possess excellent judgement and the ability to manage stakeholders effectively.
What You'll Bring (Essential Experience & Skills):
- Demonstrable experience (1-3 years) in a financial operations role (e.g., lending, mortgage, or banking) for UK or US markets.
- Expertise in financial document verification and data analysis, including the assessment of bank statements, credit reports, and other financial records.
- A comprehensive understanding of the customer lifecycle in lending, from application and underwriting to servicing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify process gaps and recommend effective solutions.
- A degree from a recognised university.
Bonus Points For (Desirable Skills):
- Hands-on experience with GenAI or automation tools within a financial services context.
- Exceptional communication and reporting skills, with experience presenting data to stakeholders.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
