Loan Officer
BlocPower seeks an experienced and dynamic Loan Officer to serve as the Accountable Person for securing and maintaining lending licenses in California, New York, Colorado, Massachusetts, and additional states as we expand. This individual will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with state and federal lending regulations, overseeing loan origination practices, and supporting the growth of BlocPower’s innovative, climate-focused financing programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in consumer and commercial unsecured lending, regulatory compliance, and leadership within the lending or financial services industry.
Regulatory Compliance
- Act as the Accountable Person for obtaining and maintaining lending licenses in California, New York, Colorado, Massachusetts, and other states as required.
- Ensure compliance with state-specific regulations under the California Financing Law (CFL), New York Licensed Lender Law, Colorado Uniform Consumer Credit Code (UCCC), Massachusetts Small Loans Act, and federal regulations (e.g., TILA, FCRA, ECOA).
- Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure all operations, policies, and procedures align with applicable laws.
- Serve as the primary liaison with state licensing agencies, including managing licensing applications, renewals, and audits.
Loan Origination Oversight
- Oversee the origination and underwriting of consumer and commercial unsecured loans to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and enforce credit standards, ensuring loans are originated responsibly and equitably, particularly for underserved low- and moderate-income (LMI) communities.
- Implement risk management practices, including evaluating borrower creditworthiness and ensuring loan portfolios maintain financial sustainability.
Team Leadership and Training
- Provide guidance and support to BlocPower’s lending operations team, ensuring all team members are well-trained in compliance, best practices, and ethical lending standards.
- Develop and deliver training programs to ensure adherence to state-specific licensing requirements and regulatory updates.
Business Development and Reporting
- Support the growth of BlocPower’s lending programs by identifying opportunities to scale services in target states.
- Collaborate with internal teams to refine lending products that meet the needs of BlocPower’s target market.
- Provide detailed reports to leadership on loan performance, compliance activities, and license management.
Qualifications:
Experience and Education
- Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in lending, with a focus on consumer and commercial unsecured loans.
- Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal lending laws and regulations, particularly in California, New York, Colorado, and Massachusetts.
- Experience serving as a Qualifying Individual (QI) or Accountable Person for lending licenses is highly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, economics, or a related field; advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., CPA, CFA) are a plus.
Skills and Competencies
- Deep understanding of credit analysis, underwriting, and risk management principles.
- Proven track record of regulatory compliance in a financial services or lending environment.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with regulators, internal teams, and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in loan origination systems, financial analysis software, and regulatory reporting tools.
Licensing and Background Requirements
- Ability to pass state-mandated criminal background checks and demonstrate financial responsibility through a clean credit history.
- Must meet or exceed state-specific qualifications for serving as an Accountable Person for lending licenses.
