The Role
As a Data Engineer, you will play a central role in building and maintaining data infrastructure that powers AI-driven insights across our nonprofit software platform. You'll be responsible for creating robust data pipelines that normalize and integrate data from multiple products, enabling us to understand the health metrics of tens of thousands of nonprofit organizations we support. This role combines traditional data engineering with modern AI integration, requiring you to work with off-the-shelf LLMs and AI services to build intelligent features that help nonprofits raise more money and operate more effectively. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams across the organization to support various project initiatives and ensure our data infrastructure can scale with our rapid growth.
What You Will Do
- Design and build scalable data pipelines using Google BigQuery to normalize and integrate data across multiple product lines
- Develop comprehensive data models that capture nonprofit organization health metrics and performance indicators
- Integrate with off-the-shelf LLMs and AI services to build intelligent data processing and analysis capabilities
- Collaborate with product teams across the organization to identify data requirements and deliver solutions that support AI-powered features
- Build and maintain data infrastructure that facilitates seamless integrations with various databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL), platforms, and APIs
- Create automated data quality monitoring and validation processes to ensure accuracy and reliability of health metrics
- Develop and maintain documentation for data architecture, pipelines, and AI integration processes
- Work with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical data solutions that leverage AI capabilities
- Optimize data processing workflows for performance and cost-effectiveness in cloud environments
What You Need to Succeed
- 3-5 years of experience in data engineering with strong proficiency in Google BigQuery (experience with Snowflake or Redshift is also valuable)
- Expert-level SQL skills and strong data analysis capabilities for complex querying, data transformation, and insight generation
- Experience with modern ETL/ELT platforms such as Fivetran, Stitch, Airbyte, or similar data integration tools
- Experience integrating with and leveraging off-the-shelf AI services and LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, etc.)
- Proficiency in Python or similar programming languages for data processing and AI service integration
- Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, and data pipeline architecture
- Experience with API integrations and working with various data sources and formats
- Knowledge of data governance, security, and access control best practices
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (preferably Google Cloud Platform) and modern data stack tools
- Experience with version control, CI/CD practices, and collaborative development workflows
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to data quality and accuracy
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, growing organization
- Experience working in SaaS or technology companies, preferably with exposure to AI/ML initiatives

Compensation
The salary range for this position is: $92,000 - $138,000. You may also be eligible for a discretionary bonus. Actual compensation within the range will be dependent on your skills, experience, qualifications, and location, as well as applicable employment laws.
Location
This is a permanent, full-time, fully remote position. Employees living in Indianapolis, IN are welcome to work from our company headquarters. We do not offer Visa sponsorship or relocation assistance at this time.
