Senior Mine Engineer

Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice President, Mining, the Senior Mine Engineer is responsible for mine planning, design, and optimization activities to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective mining operations. This role plays a key part in driving the strategic direction of the mining operations, and ensuring alignment between operational execution and strategic mine objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and support the execution of mine designs and plans for the restart of mining operations
  • Design and optimize open pit and/or underground mine layouts, including haul roads, ramps, stopes, and sequencing
  • Ensure all mine plans comply with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and environmental guidelines
  • Collaborate closely with exploration, operations/mining contractors, permitting, and other site teams to align plans and ensure successful execution
  • Support and manage engineering consultants on studies as required
  • Monitor mine performance and reconcile actual results against plan; identify variances and implement improvements
  • Conduct economic evaluations, cost analysis, and productivity assessments
  • Mentor and supervise junior mine engineers and technical staff
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and life-of-mine planning activities and capital projects
  • Implement and maintain mine planning software and systems
  • Develop mine planning processes and procedures
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence programs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline (Master’s degree is an asset)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain in Nevada preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of mining experience, with strong exposure to planning and operations
  • Experience in open pit and underground operations
  • Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Deswik)
  • Strong understanding of drill & blast, geotechnical considerations, and mine economics
  • Knowledge of U.S. mining regulations (MSHA standards)
