About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Development Manager, Data Engineering to lead and grow our data engineering practice. This is a leadership-first role — you will shape the technical direction of our medallion lakehouse architectures, mentor a high-performing team of data engineers, and serve as the primary technical liaison across clients, sales, and delivery. You will be the connective tissue between business goals and scalable, production-grade data pipelines.
Key Responsibilities
People Management & Mentorship
- Provide ongoing guidance, mentorship, and career development support to data engineering team members
- Foster a collaborative, high-trust team culture built on continuous learning and accountability
- Identify skill gaps and create development plans to grow team capability over time
- Conduct regular 1:1s and performance conversations aligned with individual and team goals
Technical Leadership
- Serve as the high-level architect for client engagements — defining medallion lakehouse patterns, data pipeline strategies, and platform decisions
- Review and approve technical aspects of Statements of Work (SOWs) and project plans
- Provide hands-on keyboard support when team members are blocked or when critical deliverables require direct intervention
- Define and enforce technical standards, coding conventions, and best practices across the team
Delivery & Project Direction
- Partner with delivery leadership to clear roadblocks, manage client conflict, and ensure projects stay on track
- Define roadmaps with clearly scoped, distributable tasks that enable parallel execution
- Break work into incremental deliverables that provide early value and support iterative improvement
- Prioritize features and projects based on level of effort (LOE) and business impact
Resource Management
- Manage allocation of technical resources across active engagements, ensuring the right skills are matched to project needs
- Collaborate with delivery managers and account leads to anticipate resource needs and proactively address capacity constraints
Sales & Presales Support
- Participate in presales conversations to provide technical credibility and help scope data engineering solutions
- Articulate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and prospective clients
- Assist in proposal development, SOW definition, and technical estimation
Incident Management & Continuous Improvement
- Lead post-mortem reviews for incidents and engagement challenges — documenting findings and driving process improvements
- Share learnings broadly to raise the team's overall execution quality
