General Description
As a senior member of the Blue Star Families’ Chapter Impact leadership team, the Senior Director, Chapter Expansion oversees the expansion and lunch strategy of new Blue Star Families chapters. In close collaboration with the EVP Chapter Impact, the Senior Director of Chapter Expansion is responsible for leading and executing the organization's strategic growth by developing and launching new chapters nationwide. This individual will oversee all aspects of the expansion process, from market research and feasibility studies to chapter recruitment, onboarding, and support. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with strong project management skills, a passion for the organization’s mission, and experience in scaling nonprofit operations. The Senior Director, Chapter Expansion will also oversee the management of these new chapters.
Key Job Functions
- With the EVP Chapter Impact, help to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for identifying, assessing, and prioritizing potential new markets for chapter expansion.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to set quarterly and annual goals for chapter growth aligned with the organization’s mission and strategic plan.
- Oversee the process of establishing new chapters, including community assessments, local stakeholder engagement, and recruiting staff leadership teams.
- Ensure each chapter is equipped with the tools, training, and resources needed to operate effectively.
- Cultivate relationships with community leaders, organizations, and funders in prospective markets to build support for new chapters.
- Secure local funding commitments in collaboration with the development team.
- Develop policies and processes to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance across all chapters.
- Work closely with internal teams to support chapters in achieving programmatic and fundraising goals.
- Lead a team of staff or consultants focused on expansion and chapter support.
- Serve as a mentor and resource for chapter leadership, ensuring alignment with organizational values and objectives.
- Hold chapters accountable for revenue targets and oversee progress against those targets.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience, Skills, Background
- Bachelor's degree in business, or related field.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of industry-related experience, including at least three (3) years managing a team of employees.
- Proven track record of successful chapter or program expansion.
- Extensive project management experience.
- Willingness to travel frequently to support expansion efforts.
- Familiarity with fundraising, including major gifts, corporate sponsorships, and grant writing.
- Excellent written and oral presentation and communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, vision, and management to the respective area of supervision.
- Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills.
- Exceptional internal and external customer service orientation.
- Ability to maintain workplace confidentiality and take ownership/accountability for actions and aspects of the job.
- Demonstrated commitment, passion, and compassion for BSF’s mission.
- May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary to carry out key job functions.
- Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 30 lbs.
Desired Experience, Skills, Background
- Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database systems (e.g.. Salesforce).
- Experience with Project management platforms (e.g. Hive).
- Experience with a virtual organization/working remotely, and managing a remote team. Familiarity with the military community.
