General Description

The Nourish the Service Consultant will play a key role in advising on and supporting Blue Star Families’ Nourish the Service initiative to address food insecurity among military-connected families. This is a project-based,  part-time,  contractor role.This role provides an opportunity to help shape Nourish the Service into a thoughtful, intentional, and data-driven signature program at BSF. The consultant will provide recommendations to strengthen program infrastructure, create frameworks  to measure and communicate impact, and propose  strategies to grow Nourish the Service into a leading national effort that moves the needle on military family food security.

Additionally, the consultant will help create engaging content for The Blue Star Neighborhood, fostering an online community where military families can access vital resources, share experiences, and find support.

*This is an independent contractor position. 

 

Required Skills

  • Ability to work autonomously and provide deliverables within agreed-upon timelines.
  • Strong planning, project coordination, and organizational skills
  • Ability to think creatively about program development and impact measurement
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling content and reports
  • Comfortable using data and digital tools to track progress and engage with an online community

 

Preferred Skills, Experience, and Background

  • Military affiliation (spouse, caregiver, or dependent) and deep understanding of military family life
  • Lived experience as a member of a historically underserved community
  • Experience working with food security programs, social services, or nonprofit organizations
  • Familiarity with Blue Star Families’ mission, programs, and advocacy efforts
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with programs,  impact measurement, or research
