Position Type: Independent Contractor, approximately 20 hours per week through December 2025

Total Contract: Approximately $15,000 total (negotiable)

Blue Star Families (BSF) is a national nonprofit dedicated to supporting military families by providing programming and resources while strengthening their connections to their local communities. We partner with businesses, government agencies, and local organizations to create impactful programs that empower and uplift military families.

 

Independent Contractor Engagement Terms:

This independent contractor will be retained solely for project-based, outcome-driven services and will not be an employee, agent, or representative of Blue Star Families. The independent contractor:

  • Will provide their own tools, equipment, and software necessary for completing deliverables.
  • Is responsible for determining work methods, scheduling, and location of work.
  • Maintains full control over how services are executed.
  • Will invoice BSF on agreed terms and is responsible for their own tax obligations, insurance, and business expenses.
  • May perform work for other clients and is not subject to BSF employee policies or supervision.

Project Based Scope of Work 

The Social Media Consultant may be contracted to perform the following services as part of defined project engagements:

  • Develop and deliver original content strategies and written copy tailored to BSF’s brand objectives and social channels.
  • Design and submit proposed weekly social media content calendars for client approval.
  • Schedule content delivery via scheduling tools of the consultant’s choice (e.g., Sprout Social).
  • Advise on social media KPIs and recommend campaign metrics.
  • Provide guidance on platform-specific best practices and engagement opportunities.
  • Analyze performance data and submit strategic insights or recommendations.
  • Prepare toolkits that enable stakeholders or community members to amplify social content.
  • Identify and recommend influencer collaboration opportunities relevant to the client’s mission.
  • Respond to social media engagement in a manner aligned with brand tone, if agreed upon in scope.
  • Compile and submit reports summarizing campaign performance and trends.
  • Manage paid social ad campaigns, as outlined in individual scopes of work.
  • All work must be completed in accordance with mutually agreed timelines and milestones outlined in each project agreement or Statement of Work (SOW).

 

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience providing social media consulting services to mission-driven organizations or brands.
  • Expertise in developing cross-platform strategies and producing engaging, high-performing content.
  • Proficiency in analytics and reporting using platforms such as Sprout Social, Google Analytics, or Meta tools.
  • Strong understanding of social media trends and digital storytelling techniques.

 

Deliverables & Payment Terms

All services shall be delivered in accordance with agreed deadlines and milestones. Payment structure to be outlined in a separate contract. BSF shall not direct how services are performed — only that deliverables meet agreed results.
