Job Summary
BMG Money is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Data Governance Steward – Operations to serve as the domain-level point of accountability for the quality, lineage, and usability of operations-related data. This role will work closely with business leaders, operations managers, and technology partners to ensure operational data assets are fit for purpose, governed, and aligned with enterprise data standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Operations data domain owner’s delegate in driving accountability for data fitness (accuracy, completeness, timeliness, consistency).
- Define, maintain, and enforce data quality rules and business glossaries for operational data (e.g., loan origination, servicing, payment processing, claims).
- Partner with the Data Governance Office to support data lineage, classification, and metadata capture using enterprise tooling (e.g., Collibra, GCP Data Catalog).
- Monitor operational data pipelines for anomalies, contribute to root cause analysis for data quality issues, and work with engineering to drive remediation.
- Collaborate with Operations leadership to identify and prioritize critical data elements (CDEs) impacting operational efficiency, risk mitigation, or compliance.
- Support the documentation of Authorized Data Sources (ADS) and ensure alignment with source systems, API definitions, and downstream reporting.
- Participate in data council meetings and steward forums, acting as a bridge between enterprise governance and frontline operations.
Additional Responsibilities
- Proactively monitor, identify, and remediate data quality issues within core operational systems (Loan Origination System, CRM, etc.).
- Analyze operational data flows to identify inefficiencies and data-related bottlenecks in the loan application, verification, and funding processes.
- Define and maintain a business glossary of critical operational data elements, such as applicant information, loan status, and customer interaction logs.
- Collaborate with Compliance and IT teams to ensure operational data handling adheres to company policies and relevant regulations (e.g., Fair Lending, UDAAP).
- Ensure the operational data used for performance dashboards (e.g., time-to-fund, application volume, call center metrics) is accurate and trusted by business leaders.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Operations department and the central data governance/IT teams to translate business needs into data requirements.
- Train operations staff on data standards, best practices for data entry, and the importance of data quality in achieving departmental goals.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in data management, operations, or business process improvement within financial services or fintech.
- Strong understanding of loan servicing, origination, and transactional processing workflows.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements impacting operational data (e.g., FCRA, CCPA, GLBA).
- Experience with data profiling, issue management, and collaboration tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, SQL).
- Proficient in tools such as Excel, SQL, Power BI, Looker, and GCP-based data platforms.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills across business and technology teams.
- Strong understanding of the loan lifecycle and associated data (e.g., loan applications, underwriting, customer data).
- Demonstrated experience in identifying and resolving data quality problems.
- Familiarity with loan origination software (LOS), customer relationship management(CRM) systems, and data analysis tools.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
