
Telecom Repair Technician
Summary of the Role:
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Telecom Repair Technician with extensive hands-on experience in coaxial, copper, and fiber optic networks. The technician will be responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of telecommunications systems, with a primary focus on customer-facing Installation & Repair (I&R) tasks. This role demands strong technical expertise, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and outstanding customer service skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and business telecom services utilizing coax, copper, and fiber lines.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to voice, data, and video services, ensuring optimal operation and prompt service restoration.
- Conduct cable splicing, termination, and testing for both copper and fiber optic systems.
- Utilize test equipment to verify signal levels, continuity, and overall network integrity.
- Repair or replace defective lines, connectors, or equipment as necessary.
- Complete I&R service orders, ensuring timely resolution and high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate documentation of repairs, installations, and test results.
- Adhere to safety standards and company procedures while operating in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Deliver exceptional customer support, articulating service issues and solutions in a clear and professional manner.
Requirements / Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in telecom field services, specifically in Installation & Repair (I&R).
- Strong working knowledge of coaxial, copper, and fiber optic cabling.
- Familiarity with OTDR, TDR, signal meters, and related test equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and work orders.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work in various field environments (aerial, buried, indoor).
- Willingness to work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends, as required.
- Technician must possess the necessary tools to complete I&R work, including but not limited to:
- Signal/test meters for coax, copper, and fiber
- Extension and step ladders
- Safety cones and PPE (personal protective equipment)
- Preferred: Residing in South Carolina (SC) for ease of deployment and on-call responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications in fiber optics or telecom systems.
- Knowledge of network protocols and DSL services.
- Prior experience with a major telecom provider’s I&R processes.
- OSHA or telecom safety certifications.
