The Role: Strategic Lead for Public Sector & Educational Connectivity

At Boomi, we aim to make the world a better place by connecting everyone to everything, anywhere. We are seeking a Senior Solutions Engineer with deep expertise in iPaaS, hybrid integration, and public sector IT modernization to lead our most strategic State, Local, and Higher Education (SLED) technical engagements across North America.

In this strategic role, you will serve as the principal technical advisor to government agency leadership (State & Local CIOs, Agency Tech Directors, HHS commissioners) and higher education executives (University CIOs, Provosts, VP of IT). You will define the connectivity vision for complex public sector modernization initiatives—helping institutions eliminate agency data silos, protect citizen and student data sovereignty, and orchestrate hybrid environments spanning legacy on-premises databases, multi-cloud platforms, and secure government clouds.

What You'll Do

  • Strategic SLED Architecture & Modernization: Lead the architectural design of end-to-end integration strategies across state/local agencies and university systems, incorporating Application Integration, EDI, and secure Managed File Transfer (MFT) to modernize legacy infrastructure without high-risk "rip-and-replace" disruptions.
  • Public Sector Governance & Compliance: Architect solutions adhering to stringent public sector compliance and security frameworks, including StateRAMP, FedRAMP, CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services), FERPA, HIPAA, and NIST SP 800-53. Ensure data sovereignty and hybrid runtime placement (on-prem, hybrid, and GovCloud enclaves).
  • RFP/RFI & Public Procurement Defense: Direct the technical evaluation strategy for complex formal solicitations (RFPs, RFIs, RFQs) and cooperative purchasing contract evaluations (e.g., NASPO, OMNIA, TIPS, Carahsoft motions), authoring authoritative architectural narratives and mandatory security compliance responses.
  • Consultative Discovery & Multi-Stakeholder Alignment: Partner with Enterprise SLED Account Executives to navigate complex public sector buying committees. Translate technical capabilities into measurable mission outcomes (e.g., reduced constituent service wait times, streamlined benefits eligibility processing, elevated student retention metrics).
  • Proof of Value (PoV) Leadership: Lead scoped, high-stakes Proof of Value evaluations within prospect environments, validating the security and operability of Boomi runtime configurations (Atoms and clustered Molecules) across hybrid data center and government cloud footprints.
  • Cross-Agency & Campus System Orchestration: Design specialized connectivity bridging core public systems of record (e.g., Tyler Technologies, Infor Public Sector, SAP, CGI Advantage, Ellucian Banner/Colleague, Workday) with modern cloud platforms (Salesforce Government/Education Cloud, Snowflake, AWS GovCloud, Microsoft Azure Government).
  • Win-Team Quarterbacking: Coordinate internal domain specialists, field engineers, and partner solution architects to quarterback multi-pillar technical pursuits across iPaaS, API Management, DataHub, and AI.

The Experience You Bring

  • SLED Presales & Consultative Acumen: 5+ years of customer-facing presales solutions engineering or technical consulting experience, with proven success supporting complex State, Local, or Higher Education pursuits.
  • Public Procurement & Sales Cycle Maturity: Deep familiarity with public sector procurement rhythms, fiscal-year budget cycles (July 1 state/county deadlines, September federal close), and multi-tier committee evaluations.
  • iPaaS & Hybrid Integration Depth: Hands-on mastery of enterprise integration patterns, web services (REST/SOAP/GraphQL), asynchronous message queuing (Boomi Event Streams, Kafka, RabbitMQ), and secure data movement.
  • Executive Public Sector Storytelling: Exceptional ability to communicate fluently across altitudes—from deep architectural sessions with state network security teams and database administrators to strategic briefings with Agency Directors, Commissioners, and University Boards.
  • Runtime Infrastructure & Network Security: Proven experience navigating zero-inbound firewall configurations, reverse proxy designs, DMZ edge gateways, and hybrid runtime placement across on-premises government data centers and cloud VPCs.

Preferred Skills & Technical Credentials

  • SLED Ecosystem Literacy: Hands-on experience integrating public sector ecosystems, including Higher Ed SIS/LMS (Ellucian Banner, Colleague, Workday Student, Canvas) or State/Local ERPs (Tyler Technologies, SAP S/4HANA Public Sector, Salesforce Gov/Ed Cloud).
  • Security & Cloud Certifications: Active or prior public sector security credentials, clearance exposure, or industry certifications (StateRAMP/FedRAMP familiarity, AWS/Azure Certified Cloud Architect, CISSP, TOGAF).
  • Platform Breadth (The Majors): Experience extending iPaaS pursuits into adjacent platform pillars: API Gateway governance, Master Data Management (Boomi DataHub for golden citizen/student records), and secure retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) AI workflows.
